A good Greek translator on the net?
« on: August 05, 2016, 09:34:17 AM »
Good day to all!

Any decent website that would translate from the Latin alphabet to the Greek alphabet?

Any good translator at all? I am doing exercises where I am given the English word and the phonetic Greek word and I have to write in Greek alphabet, but wen I want to confirm that I have the good translation, most of the translator are giving a completely different word.

Here is an example:

English: Hello
Phonetic Greek: gia'sou
Translated into: Χαίρετε which I think ( I might be wrong) is not the literal translation.

Thank you!
St Makarios, pray for us.

I think you are looking for a transliterator (giving the Greek equivalents of Latin characters) rather than a translator (gives an equivalent Greek expression for an English expression). The former is what you want if you are wanting to go from gia'sou to γειά σου. I don't know of a website that would do that. Χαίρετε is a different translation of "hello."
Woe is me, that I have read the commandments,
and have become learned in the Scriptures,
and have been instructed in Your glories,
and yet I have become occupied in shameful things!

Yes, a transliterator is what I need.

Google Translate does it automatically, but I'm not sure whether the additional signs of Koine are supported.
