More news about this on how Greece is being destroyed by tourists and the loosers that go to night clubs that like to sin by being drunk, orgies, and destroying natural habitats of animals.

The Greeks do a good job of destroying their country on their own.

Sadly family issues concern me, and my concentration is poor. Nacho, too many young Britons are going to various sunspots, including Greece and getting drunk in large and sometimes organised groups. Their entertainment led by staff from holiday tour group staff includes outrageous and very sexualised behaviour; this in turn spills out onto the streets. The drunken and debauched 'yoofs' and young adults roam the streets and beaches, vomiting, urinating, exposing themselves and sometimes copulating in public places.

The Greeks and many others, including many Britons, find this distressing and troubling. Sadly Greek bars and businesses are involved as the trade (in terms of the quantity of alcohol alone) is astounding. The youngsters have no sense of eating and drinking needing to be undertaken together, nor of the damage to their physical health alone all this is doing to them.

Binge drinking  and public disorder is a huge social and policing problem in Britain, and to make matters worse the all wise Tony Blair wants to liberate Britain's rather 'odd' licensing hours for pubs and bars so extending opening times, in the belief that this will of itself create a more continental drinking culture. Most senior police officers, some judges and many others think he is living cloud cuckoo land and/or sucking up to Britain's large breweries and alcohol industry.

Other North Europeans do not seem to have as great a problem in terms of their behaviour when visiting European sunspots as the Brits.

By and large public drunkeness is rare in Southern Europe but common in the North. With the development of mass tourism many Northern Europeans go South for the sun and outrage the locals by behaving in ways that, shamefully, are acceptable in their own countries.

Here in the UK many older people now avoid town centres on Friday and Saturday nights because drunken swearing fighting vomitting crowds of young drunks have no respect for anyone. Least of all themselves.

Clearly you've never been to the resorts in Bulgaria which are popular with Scandinavian tourists. You'll find Finns and Swedes vomiting, urinating, and stumbling as far as the eye can see. This problem isn't limited only to Britons.

Let's pray for them, that they find Godly direction in their lives.  Maybe on a trip to Greece they will happen upon Orthodoxy and fall in love with it (God can make things happen to our own good, even when we do the best job possible to harm ourselves).

Sounds like Greece needs to learn some law enforcement techniques to me.

Certain groups of tourists have picked up reputations. Back when I was in college it was West Germans who were the boors of Europe. By and large-- at least in Europe-- American tourists seem to be pretty well behaved (if often impressively ignorant)-- then again, NY to Paris is a long way to fly for a drunken weekend.

It sounds like it is more of a (exluding most locals) younger generation problem.

Woah there now. You might not like what TomS had to say, but having lived in Greece for the last 12 years I can't find much reason to disagree with his sentiments. I'd lay most of the blame on the socialist government that was in power for the last couple of decades, except that they were in power courtesy of the majority of Greeks who voted for them.

If we had the means, we would move back to Australia as we find the steady decline in Greece to be most distressing. We no longer feel it is a place where we can comfortably raise our children.

Yea, I'm a bartender and work at one of the best bar/lounges' in my area which has for the most part an upscale clientale. Unfornately we are downtown and I have to see the mobs of idiots booming their rap with their pants hanging off thier buts acting like morons and thugs. They seem to like to draw attention to themselves and another trait I notice is they like to block the road and some of them will just walk out into the road expecting you to stop for them, which sometimes I don't. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you can't hang with the drinks and acting in a civil manner, then maybe drinking isn't for you. Leave that up to the big boys... Cool

Very interesting, as an Australian monk told me that his family was talking of moving to Greece, but he strongly recomended that they remain in Australia as it was far better than the current chaos of Greece.

I do wonder now if I am insane for moving TO Greece!  The big day is coming up in just over a month - it got pushed backed to October 2nd now because of visa troubles.

The once puritanical people of England actually causing problems in a Mediterranean country by indulging of the pleasures of life. This is a change for the better, though perhaps they went a little too far; but thus is the nature of the rebellion of Child against Father, things will settle down on their own, with much time and a little patience.

Anarchists lash out at cars, stores

A group of about 50 youths went on a rampage outside the National Technical University in central Athens late on Saturday, throwing Molotov cocktail bombs and setting fire to parked cars and rubbish containers, police said yesterday.

There were no reports of injuries.

The youths, who had attended a gathering at the university, attacked the area a little after 9 p.m. as firefighters and riot police rushed to the scene.

“They set fire to two cars and two rubbish bins. These fires then spread and caused most of the damage,” a firefighter told a television crew.

The self-styled anarchists also threw rocks and smashed the windows of two store fronts.

Police detained a few of the gang members but failed to make any arrests due to lack of evidence, authorities said.

Most escaped the scene by running through the streets of the neighboring Exarchia area.

Police and firefighters stayed in the area of the university for the remainder of the night in the event

Young Britons and their out of control drinking and the resulting violence is a problem at home for police forces, local health services and and local commuties. It is not just offensive but injurious behaviours which alarms. I know because I have to walk a dog late at night, each and every night regardless of the weather or time of year.

True Britons do not have the corner on alcohol abuse but they appear to be in the lead for aggressive and violent behaviour. Sadly Greece appears to have been reluctant to tackle these characters because of the great monies tourism produces for an economy so very dependent on visitor spending.

But Britons who visit aerodromes to go aeroplane spotting (what an odd hobby) get arrested and tried for espionage. The Greek police and authorities should have got a lid on this a long time ago.

But when you talk to them all problems are blamed on Albanians?
