^If we do there are going to be moslems who want to vote to make it a mosque again.  We probably better leave it as a museum.

Bryan I agree Turkey and democracy are far apart..my problem is that from 6june until 5july the Hagia Sophia has turn to mosque.I find it disrespectful.

Yes, an online poll will sure change the Turks' minds.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

There is no faith involved concerning online polls.

Best to leave as is.
The Turks do all the maintenance and repairs as a museum, very expensive for the Phanar to afford
Making noises about returning it to Christians will only force Muslims hand in remaking it into a Mosque again.

I vote No! Nyet! Ohi! Hayir! Let it remain a museum. There is enough going on in Turkey right now, without foreigners stirring up more crap!

Surely, if God had wanted the Aya Sofia to remain an Orthodox Church, She would not have allowed the Catholic Venetians and Franks to breach the sea walls during the Fourth Crusade. After all, isn't the Byzantine High Admiral, Loukas Notaras attributed with the proverb, ‘Better the Turkish Turban than the Papal Tiara’?

This won't happen absent a change of sovereignty in Constantinople, but I disagree that militating for it will prompt the Turks to retaliate; that's coming anyway. The Turkish government is already funding the construction of a mosque in the Netherlands called Hagia Sophia, ostensibly to desensitize Westerners to the idea of the  true Hagia Sophia being reconverted into a mosque. Now that Erdogan has had his Reichstag fire moment by orchestrating a false coup to consolidate power, expect Turkey to ramp up Islamization efforts, with the Hagia Sophia being the symbolic crown jewel of a Turkish caliphate.

I'm cautiously optimistic that rapprochement between Turkey and Russia will fail, and that we'll see a Russian army marching on Constantinople in my lifetime, but wouldn't hold my breath...

Heck, I would not mind seeing that hypothetical march by a Russian Army myself...
