ITT: Revelations Within the Mystery of Confession

In this thread, please reveal advice given to you by your confessor without any context!

I was told to pray the Jesus Prayer more often.

I'll let you decide for what reason.

Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

I was told to cease posting because of the dissipative and pan-ecumenistic tone of the site.

However, I might respond to PMs, and you are very welcome to click the teal ball on my profile page.

Good bye

The memory of God should be treasured in our hearts like the precious pearl mentioned in the Holy Gospel. That's very odd. I was told to stop posting at genuine.true.forreallyrealguys.old.calendar.authentic.notatallheretical.sincerly.orthodox.schismatics.org because stickiusinyourus-rearus is a contagion communicable through the interwires. Our priests must be estranged brothers or something.

Me: What should I do?
Father-Confessor: How old are you, again?
Me: <x> years old.
Father-Confessor: You're <x> years old.

Surviving in the Pigpen. And then there could be counselling, for people who feel unhappy in the pigpen, to try to get them to come to terms with the pigpen, and to accept the pigpen.

Ah, Denise, thanks for jarring my memory.   ;)

This is a very important musing.

The priest told me that he was not going to give me a blessing to post anything because he is not an Elder, nor does he pretend to be one. He emphasized that the GOC does not encourage Elder worship.

Now I shall retreat in silence.

I was basically told not to be too hard on myself all of the time. I guess I confessed too many things that the priest was thinking "Dude, how is that even wrong? Your outrage is just in such a situation."

I have had both my confessors (two different churches, we moved) tell me that when it came to prayer and fasting...  do only as much as you can do consistently and then do it... consistently.

It only stays derailed if one wishes it to be so.  Much like the spiritual life.

I was told to stop cussing. The confession had nothing to do with cussing, nor had I brought up cussing any time previously, and I certainly hadn't cussed at church.

Often forget what was said during Confession! Besides my Spiritual Confessor and I usually laugh through a large portion of it.
But I do recall one thing, once, I confessed despair, darkness, etc....you know, the same old stuff we've all felt, I trust, and he mentioned something about us being beings created from 'nothing' and stop trying to look backwards into whence we came and turn around, forwards to where we are promised.
IOW, get my head out of my retrograde.
We laughed again.

I was confessing being angry with a person, and antagonizing them... I was told it was my struggle, and to continue engaging in said antagonizing behavior!  Believe it or not this was very hard advice to follow, I wanted him to just tell me apologize and knock it off. Strangely, I do feel it ended up being beneficial to both parties involved.

My spiritual father told me to pray always and to stay strong in faith to Christ. He told me it is very important to have a strong faith in God and to communicate with Him through prayer. Because we are all beg His mercy for whatever we do.

Father-Confessor: The gun is good!
Me: The gun is good!
Father-Confessor: The Penis is evil! The Penis shoots Seeds, and makes new Life to poison the Earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the Gun shoots Death and purifies the Earth of the filth of ecumenism. Go forth, and kill!

That’s what my dentist said as he strapped me to a gurney and started the drill.

We never had public confession, but yesterday during coffee hour one of the priests asked everyone: "So, who's been managing to fast?", followed by silence. Then he repeated: "Come on, I want to know, who is?", which was answered with a mix of answers, self-conscious giggles and his wife asking: "What on Earth, Father?"

"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

Anyhow when God was asked he said Eastern Orthodox is true Church and not Catholic Church. So come home and enjoy.

Second-to-last confession I was at I was kneeling and got a cramp in my leg during the prayers at the end, and I tried to just soldier through it but couldn't and had to re-adjust and got into a genuflecting position. Afterwards I explained what happened and Fr. said something like "oh, ok, I was wondering." I don't know what the advice is exactly, but I'm sure there's something helpful in there somewhere about the redemptive value of suffering.

I've had alot of confessions that were either kneeling or bending at the waist. Probably all of them were that way.

In one Greek church that I confessed at twice though, before the absolution as I described above, the confession was practically a quiet discussion sitting next to the priest in a front pew. I don't know how many of you have ever done it that way before. During the discussion, I almost always looked straight at the iconostasis and away from the priest. It was either because I unknowingly felt awkward describing my actions or because I am used to confessing while facing at an ikon. I feel more comfortable doing the latter.

That's the Greek way, for better or worse. Though last time it was in his office and the opening and absolution were in the icon corner.
