Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill to meet next week
« on: February 05, 2016, 09:13:40 AM »
Quote
The Holy See and the Patriarchate of Moscow are pleased to announce that, by the grace of God, His Holiness Pope Francis and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will meet on February 12. Their meeting will take place in Cuba where the Pope will make a stop on his way to Mexico, and where the Patriarch will be on an official visit. It will include a personal conversation at Havana’s José Martí International Airport and will conclude with the signing of a joint declaration.

This AP article carried by CBC goes into greater detail, but still doesn't say much - and even gives the impression that all initiatives for dialogue come from the Vatican.

The best thing to come out of this is more pictures of Pope Francis and Patr. Kyrill greeting each other that will be posted here in EO/RC polemics.

The first post mentions an article from an official Russians Orthodox site so the news has been verified as true.
This article on the same site mentions protests against the Pope's possible visit to Ukraine so I guess he cannot visit Russia itself.  Cuba is a good compromise.

I'm looking forward to seeing one of the Pope bowing before Patriarch Kyrill to receive his blessing.  ;D

Isa can hardly work a computer, but I am more than happy to assist him in uploading a photo. He once managed to post his tattoo and drivers license photo here

It is funny to me how these meetings between pope and patriarchs brings absolutely no good to Orthodoxy. All it can do is cause more schism.

It is easier for us to accept their Councils, then for them to reject all those Councils, they would look foolish.

Our Patriarchs gather in Switzerland, they sing some strange chant in Greek and it's done, then they just sign with their green pens.

Some might call Tsarist Russia genocidal, at least at certain points in its history.

In 1998 cardinal Stepinac was proclaimed to be blessed, and Serbian Orthodox Church still has excellent relations with the Vatican. Now both Vatican and Serbian Orthodox Church formed a joint comission that will investigate if cardinal Stepinac is blessed or a saint.
So my conclusion is, screw the martyrs, we are going Rome!
