There ain't no way but the hard way.

« on: July 26, 2005, 09:02:48 AM »

She is 101 and lived alone until she turned 100.  She lived a strong and noble life and is now on her death bed.  My wife is there with her in PA.  Her mind is extremely strong and she is praying every day for God to let her die.  Her blood pressure is dropping slowly every day.  She is now only awake a few hours a day but is very sharp.

Please pray for her for strength to endure this last struggle with the dignity and prayerfulness that she lived her life.  Pray that whatever final tasks she should complete she will do.  Her priest came for confession, but most of her family does not attend any church at all and only my wife goes to church more than a few times a year.  I don't know why she's still around, but I have a suspicion that there's something left that she has to do.  I just pray that she has the strength and courage tmake it through this time with the faith she had during her life.

Be assured  of our family's prayers.
Could you tell us her first name?

Holy Father Patrick, thank you for your help!

Lord have mercy with your wife's grandmother and everyone involved. I hope that her role will serve to her family as an example of a Christian life, and give all of them an opportunity to reflect on what they are doing with their own lives.

Prayers, indeed my friend.

We are also going through the exact thing here in our household with my 95 year-old mother-in-law who has maybe two weeks to go. We are providing our own in-home hospice care at her request. This is unbelievably difficult. I know your family's pain.

Her name is Cecilia.

Thank you all for praying for her.

Aristokles,

My prayers are with your family and especially your mother-in-law.  We will all be making this journey very soon.

This woman is the matriarch of the family and when she goes a lot of cohesion in the family will be gone.  But she has done her part for the family and my family will do its best to make sure that the torch she carried isn't extinguished by relativism, blind skepticism, cynicism and selfishness.  I hope and pray that we can carry it in a faithful way.

I just came back from the funeral in Hazleton, PA.  Thank you all for your prayers.  She died the way she lived, with absolute faith and dignity.
