He must increase, I must decrease...

Hi everybody,

I'm sorry to do this, but I'm going to ask if you would pray for me.  I know it's rather selfish, but I know the prayers of the righteous avail much.

For seven years now, I've been seeing a cardiologist, who three years ago diagnosed me with Atrial Fibrillation, a condition where the Atria tremble and beat irregularly...in other words an irregular heartbeat.  At times, my heart beats really slowly, usually around 45-50 beats a minute, where i get really lethargic and close to faint.  And at other times, it beats very quickly, 145+ beats a minute, like it did today.

I've been to specialists, I've done dozens of tests, and they've ruled out any heart disease or structural damage, so God be thanked.

My doctor says it's not a life threatening arrhythmia, but needless to say, it does get scary sometimes, and it really makes me worry.  Surely I deserve this and more for my sins.  I was hoping that some of you would just remember me when you pray, it would mean a lot.

This thing didn't befall me without God's will.  Glory to God for all things.

In Christ, the least,
Theodore (Ted)

Fr. Deacon Nikolaos,

I am not sure which of the St. Theodore's I am named after.  I celebrate my nameday on the Saturday of Souls remembering the miracle of St. Theodore of Tyre, but the feasday refers to the Agioi Theodoroi.  Needless to say, I have a great regard for both St. Theodore of Tyre, and St. Theodore the Stratelate.  Both are wonderful soldiers of Christ, and great models to emulate, remaining faithful, even in the face of martyrdom.  I would like to think that I would do the same, but it scares me sometimes to think how I would respond in that situation. But the Lord gives strength to those He calls to the martyric crown.
Thank-you for your prayers, they mean more than you know.

Of course there is also St. Theodore the Byzantine and St. Theodore of Studion, they are also great.  May all the holy saints pray for us still fighting the good fight.

This is the most important thing to meditate upon when this arrhythmia occurs. It is a heavy Cross, but one given to you by the Lord. If only I were as patient and accepting of things as you, orth_christian 2000!

Brother Theodore,
My sister's husband (who is in his mid 30's) also has atrial fibrillation and I know how worrisome it must be.  He mostly gets the fast heartbeating which in turns gives him anxiety attacks.  He is considering getting an ablative procedure which will prevent the rogue electrosignals from getting through.  Maybe this is a possibility in your case.    Know  that prayers will be said in your name and that God loves you.

Donna Rose, Ian Lazarus, Chris, and Juliana, and all who have read and prayed without their responding,

Thank-you all so kindly for your prayers.  I have since this afternoon returned to normal sinus rhythm.  God be thanked for His mercy.

Juliana, my cardiologist tells me I am a good candidate for ablation therapy, which we have talked about several times.  I got a lot of bradychardia too, (slow heart beats), so he was thinking maybe a pacemaker.  But until there is any more symptoms, like an actual passing out (which hasn't happened yet), we're just monitoring it, routine check-ups every three months, and plenty of tests.  May the good Lord be with your brother in law too.  It can trigger anxiety attacks, because the fast flutters make it feel like you can't breathe as well.  Anyway, let the Lord first heal our souls, and then, if it is His will, may He show mercy to our physical ailments too.

Chris, as for me being patient, trust me buddy, I'm hardly patient.  I'm trying to be though.  I try to take the Athonite Fathers as an example.  It is a cross, and I'm doing my best to carry it, but this is not to say that I do a good job all the time, or even manage to "get it off the ground" (figuratively speaking) on other days.  Aside from that, the demons love using physical trials like this for a series of demented thoughts.  I mean, the spiritual cross, too.  I try to lift it everyday, take it up and follow Him...doesn't mean I'm successful all the time.  But I'm trying, and the prayers and well-wishing of all you guys here on the forum, means more than I can say.  It's much easier to fight the good fight, when you know you got others fighting with you.

God bless your kindness threefold.

With love in Christ,
Theodore(Ted)

Its not a selfish request....Lord have mercy.

Do not worry, it is in my family....it is not life threatening...just remember to stay calm and take a deep breath when it happens. Have faith and make a cross, this will calm you down.

Always see your doctor too....try not to be irritable about small things as well. Do you have hypertension? Or hormone imbalance that might cause hypertension? Make sure your doctor checks into those things.

My prayers are with you.

Hadel,

Thank-you very much for your prayers.  I see my doctor regularly, and he also told me that it's not life threatening, so I do my best not to worry.  In the end, God's will be done.  As for hypertension, no, I have hypotension (my blood pressure is usually lower than the norm, usually 110 over 70).

Thanks again.
