The Kardashian sisters and their brother are Armenian Orthodox. They give 10% of their assets each year to the Armenian Church.

I would pay His Holiness the Catholicos all my money to lock them up in Etchmiadzin.

A highly doubt that the Kardashians are members of the Armenian Orthodox Church, she occasionally tweets about her church visits to a "high-profile" celebrity Protestant church in LA.

I did read somewhere that she attended an Armenian Orthodox memorial service on the memorial of the Armenian Genocide and that she considered having her wedding at an Armenian church in LA. Searching google for the link to those articles...

Troy Polamalu is an active and particularly devout Eastern Orthodox Christian.  He and his wife were married by Metropolitan Maximos, formerly of Pittsburgh, Holy Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh-GOAA.  They are known for participating in retreats.  His wife is on the FOCUS board, her name escapes me at the moment, but she wrote a message on the brochure FOCUS recently mailed out.  In his first few weeks as the enthroned Metropolitan of Pittsburgh, a little over a year ago, Metropolitan Savas was Troy's guest in a loge during a Steelers' game.

Theodora Polamalu is her name. I got that from the FOCUS mail you referred to.

Is Samuelsson Orthodox though? I was under the impression he was adopted and grew up with a Swedish Family.

Yes, he was adopted by a Swedish family after his mother passed away. But, his father was an Ethiopian Orthodox Priest so he was baptized Orthodox. I don't know his faith currently.

I dunno if they still are (or ever were, but I assume they were at least baptized as children, but who knows):

Trish Stratus (wrestler, real name is Patricia Stratiagis), though she wasn't married in an Orthodox Church...

Maria Kanellis (wrestler)

Both women are Greeks, Trish is from Canada and Maria from America.

I recently became aware that the outrageously gorgeous Maria Menounos is an Orthodox Christian, active in church affairs, sings in the choir, assists with Sunday Church School, and with the GOYA (Greek Orthodox Youth of America).

I still find the Dwyane Wade, Eminem listings (and others--where is Stalin on the list?) hilarious.

Where did these rumors start?  I'm sure tons of Orthodox buy their mothers' churches for their non-denom ministries...

Oh, but Dwyane wears the number 3, and it represents the Trinity, so he must be Orthodox!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to shorten the list up a bit:

Famous Orthodox People:

-Lots of famous people from Orthodox countries.
-A handful of others (most of them not actually being Orthodox, except for somewhere on the internet).

I saw Pete Maravich in the list above. His family may have been Orthodox at some point in their past, but he is well-known in Evangelical circles for his born-again experience after the misery of fame set in. Heck, he died playing basketball with James Dobson.

Jennifer Aniston - why claim her to be Orthodox?

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/jennifer-aniston-modest-moment-stripper-200217318.html

1 Timothy 2:9 - In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Matthew 5:28 - But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Proverbs 7:10 - And, behold, there met him a woman [with] the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

1 Peter 3:3-4 - "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."

This is more than just immodesty though.  This is her doing it knowing full well that she will be mass viewed by millions of people.  She knows she will be causing a lot of people to fall and stumble into sin.   I have no idea why Eastern Orthodox Christians would consider her a sister.   Unless of course I have it all wrong again, and somehow Orthodoxy has a non-sola scriptura approach to allow stripping.  This would be unknown to me however.

i tend to disagree with vlad the impaler (vlad țepeș).
he had a not very orthodox tendency of impaling all his enemies!

of course there are other dodgy people on the list, but this was the worst.

Aren't we so high and mighty, and apparently without stain!

Jennifer Aniston was "Baptized, Illumined, and Confirmed..." into the Orthodox Church, just as I was; her life is not for us to judge---she may be no more sinful than I.

Even the worst of sinners can be forgiven. Remember St. Mary of Egypt.

Only God (and the priest in confession) know whether anyone in particular has repented.

Jennifer Aniston - why claim her to be Orthodox?

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/jennifer-aniston-modest-moment-stripper-200217318.html

1 Timothy 2:9 - In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

Who said I was without stain or high or mighty?

But I still have yet to make millions of people fall, MULTIPLE times.

Judgment, odd that the scriptures have judged these things already.  I know some sins when I see them.   A woman dressing down into her undergarments like that, dancing around, and being a "stripper", knowing full well she'll be seen by millions of people is pretty rough.

There is sin, then there is WELL PLANNED out sin.   Then there is PAID FOR WELL PLANNED OUT sin.

Then there is:
Written
Scripted
Presented to Studios
Studio acceptance
Studios calling agents
Agent calling Aniston
Aniston seeing the script
Aniston deciding that she wants to be in a movie stripping and with other immoral themes
Aniston negotiating through agent for pay
Aniston practicing and getting ready for the sinful role
Aniston still keeping her decision up despite many months where the studio prepares
Aniston traveling to studio
Aniston for many days seeing an immoral movie being shot
Finally Aniston stripping down for the movie and dancing on camera
Afterwards she doesn't quit, but keeps up the movie

Of course, we should ignore all the other adultery themed movies she's been in.
Also ignore the perhaps BILLIONS of people that know of her, who see the filth she makes.

I know, it's common to say "she may be no greater sinner than I".   blah blah... It's an easy ploy to be Mr. Humble.   An Orthodox Christian knows the seriousness of what she is doing to masses of people.   It's not about judgment, it's about watching somebody with so much fame seriously contribute to the wickedness of this world.

Me I have plenty of sins & stains.  But I can assure you that I have yet to have so many fall into sin.

I agree.

I hope one of Aniston's methods of repentance will not be producing another adultery, immoral, and lustful film or sitcom again.

Jennifer Aniston has done some very questionable things for an Orthodox Christian. But, the same can be said about many others. How about Anne V, Maria Sharapova and other Orthodox actresses/supermodels? They've incited lust and sin in very many males due to their activity, participating in sexually suggestive photo shoots and/or acting in inappropriate films etc.

Oh, I don't know...if they didn't incite those males to lust and sin, some other women would've done it, and if the males on this site are any indication, it wouldn't take much.  I'd prefer knowing that the women who flaunt their bodies on TV, film, and in photos in order to arouse me sexually are not aphthartodocetists...that would really screw up my theosis.

I watched a half hour interview with John Tavener, BBC Hardtalk, a couple of days back. He argues all religions are equally valid, Hinduism, etc., etc. and acknowledges he has had a crisis of both faith and a lack of music in his head. Had a long period of serious ill-health from which he hasn't entirely recovered.

Not sure you might convincingly argue he is Orthodox, other than in a very unOrthodox way.

Oh boy, here we go with the "dang women and their demon gams" bit. Roll Eyes I seem to remember Christ not only telling the adulterous woman to go forth and sin no more, but also telling men that should they so much as look at a woman with lust, they have sinned. Ask yourself which one you are more personally responsible for when it comes to looking at suggestive photos and movies. Maybe that realization will evoke a different, more appropriate response to them.

Sharapova's gams (especially in action) motivate me to work harder on my own. Is that an appropriate response? Cheesy
