Maria, everything you know is a lie
« on: September 10, 2015, 05:40:58 PM »
Maria, this is going to be a heart-crushing revelation (if you don't already know it), so brace yourself.

I am truly sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I just cannot withhold this information.

So the readers can recall:

If and when we move, we absolutely must be 15 to 30 minutes away from a TJs as Whole Food Markets are overpriced.

First, I am going to assume you don't know that Trader Joe's is selling repackaged versions of food found elsewhere, like Stacy's chips or Amy's Organic. They aren't the only grocery store doing this, obviously.

As an ardent supporter of policies that allow for more transparency in GMO food, like labeling see your thread here, or abolishing it completely...well the very products you buy from TJ's is, ironically, support companies like PepsiCo who are fighting GMO labeling:

Quote
“Stacy’s is a great example, because they’re owned by PepsiCo,” Kastel says. “Pepsi has been a major funder in campaigns to fight GMO labeling initiatives, like Proposition 37 in California and similar proposals in Colorado and Oregon.” These propositions would have required food companies to put a variation of “genetically engineered” on the labels of all their products containing GMOs. “So if you’re buying those chips at Trader Joes, you have no idea the profit from those chips is going to help Pepsi stop GMO labeling,” Kastel says.

And it gets worse, because none of TJ's claims about not using GMO seeds and ingredients can be verified. So until their products are reviewed by an independent organization, anything they say should be taken with a grain of salt.

You can read more here: http://groundswell.org/the-truth-behind-trader-joes-what-you-may-not-know-about-tjs-brand/

So looks like you will be looking for another grocery store.

I'm ready for the popcorn.gif

Oh, I have already found some good deals online. Like Thrive.

I am gradually moving away from my dependence at Trader Joes, the German company.

My Greek in-laws have forbidden me to shop there, after Germany shafted Greece.

You can't choose where you, a grown woman, shop?

Sometimes there are nice farmer's markets. There's one that meets in front of one of the local libraries, every so often. I get really good cookies there.

Yes, when I visited Hawaii, there were no Trader Joes there.
They had a great Farmer's Market in Kona which we visited frequently.
They had the best produce. I loved the tropical fruit.

Just for perspective, how old are you?

Meh, you like the one in Bethel Park? The Giant Eagle Market District dwarfed it in fresh fruit and veggies.

CSA and co-ops are better.
