« on: June 27, 2005, 09:12:41 PM »
Can anyone provide me with a transliteration of the Jesus prayer in Russian?

Thanks for your time,

Not Russian, but Slavonic:

Господи Иисусе Христе, Сыне Боже, помилуй мя, грешнаго.

If you are female, replace the last word with грешную.

Update: I noticed that you asked for a transliteration:

Gospodi Iisuse Khriste, Syne Bozhe, pomiluj mja, greshnago/greshnuju. (Yarr, it's difficult to transliterate on the fly when one is used to touch-typing with the Russian keyboard. And "j" is pronounced like an English consonantal "y".)

I don't know about wnyone else, but I'd be interested (out of pure curiosity, but I love languages) in seeing what the Jesus Prayer looks like in various languages. In case anyone else would agree, I'll give the Romanian version below:

Doamne Iisuse Hristoase, Fiul lui Dumnezeu, miluieşte-mă pe mine păcătosul.

You pronounce every vowel in a 'pure' form (rather like Italian) and ş is pronounced like 'sh' while ă is like the 'a' in about.

I hope somebody else posts another language. If not, sorry for the aside.

We owe greater gratitude to those who humble us, wrong us, and douse us with venom, than to those who nurse us with honour and sweet words, or feed us with tasty food and confections, for bile is the best medicine for our soul. - Elder Paisios of Mount Athos

Thank you both very much! I agree with jmbedjl that it would be really neat to know the prayer in multiple languages.
