Anyone ever seen the actual hat under the cowl in a vhegar?  Pretty cool.
I'm with the camp of 13 million Americans that believe politicians are, or are controlled by, Reptilians. I think only monks can solve this problem. It doesn't seem right that they prefer to ignore it.

It's basically just this, but often a bit smaller/with less of a brim (for lack of better term).

Usually it's even simpler than that, and often collapsable so it can be folded in half. Kind of weird to see it sitting somewhere in the vestry if your priest happens to be celibate.

It's like there's an estranged Pope family and two brothers who live near each other are rebuilding family bonds and settling peace with each other while the third brother insists he's better than everyone because he's rich and lives in Europe.

Can someone explain this tradition in the Syriac Orthodox Church on Epiphany of coverind and then uncovering an altar boy in front of the holy water?

Can you touch on the relationship between the Greek and Coptic popes? I've seen someone mention before that the Greek pope has said that he will step aside should the two Churches decide to reunite

I think you're talking about the alleged reunion of 1860. According to a Rev Greenwald, EO patriarch of Alexandria Callinicus was going to step aside as patriarch. Coptic Pope Cyril IV was going to be patriarch while Patriarch Callinicus would be metropolitan of the Greeks in Alexandria. This was decided while Callinicus was visiting Pope Cyril in St Antony's monastery in the Red Sea. Problem with this is that Rev Greenwald got a lot of dates wrong and never said why it didn't happened other than the untimely death of Pope Cyril IV on January 30, 1861. Patriarch Callinicus died the same year. Additionally, there is no corroborating evidence to say a reunion was even attempted. Many Copts assume it did because Pope Cyril IV reformed the Coptic Church a lot. They assume Pope Cyril was very ecumenical. But there is evidence that he despised Roman Catholic Church and the Frankish Catholic community. There isn't much information of Patriarch Callinicus who seems to only have been patriarch for a very short time.

I don't know if the two current patriarchs of Alexandria have come to any sort of proposal outside the Joint Commission of the 1990's. Of course the Joint Commission only addressed theology with no specific details of how an Alexandrian reunion would work.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the first Divine Liturgy over the ruins of Virgin Mary church in Deir ez-Zor, after the city's victory against ISIS.   He was assisted by their Eminences: Mor Maurice Amsih, Archbishop of Euphrates and Jazeera, and Mor Timotheos Matta , Archdiocese of Damascus.

Fire!

As I understand the stuff with fire/candles on the Meeting of the Lord feast, since it's present in various traditions, I wonder what's going on with these children being introduced into altar? I see a symbolism and connection with the feast, but what's the exact meaning, genesis of it? It reminds me a bit "vvod" (as we say in Church Slavonic, it means "introduction") of child and his/her mother after 40 days to the church, and the child is also brought by a priest into the altar.

Palm Sunday celebration at St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church in Homs. The chruch is known locally as Um Al-Zunar Church i.e. The Church of 'Belt of the Mother'.  As per the tradition, St. Mary gave her belt to St. Thomas. In the 5th century a Syrian monk brought the belt to Homs, and ever since has been preserved there.

Here is a photo of the same church from 2012; when it was significantly damaged in ISIS attacks.

Damages are mostly fixed and the church is back in use. Here is a photo taken inside the church .

Though you can still see the impact of the damages ..

Definitely Rastafari, but it was interesting to see the last Orthodox monarch being depicted in graffiti here. The balloon near his mouth says "faith".

What does the larger Amharic say?
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

I'm not sure if it's Amharic or gibberish. The lower part seems to be just "Dhon", which is a bizarre but existant variant for John.

Oh, ok.

Though, I can kind of see how "Dhon" could be pronounced John, phonetically.
