Is this the late Malankara Orthodox (independent) patriarch in the group?  He looks like Mar Thoma Matthew (memory eternal).

Yes, that is the late Catholicos Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews II.

Beautiful.  What parish is that?

Not sure, it's one of the Syriac congregations in Germany IIRC.

That's an incredibly interesting picture, from an Armenian perspective. On the left is the current Catholicos Karekin II, at the center is Catholicos Karekin I, and at the right is Abp. Khajag Barsamian of the Eastern Diocese of America. Not sure who the bishop is that the Catholicos is gesturing towards. Looks to be about 1995 or 6?

It does indeed look like this was in the 90s.  But I'm not sure the exact year either.

What's the context of the photo?  Does anyone know where this is or why the hierarchs are gathered together?  Is it a WCC event?

IIRC, it is the Consecration of Holy Myron at Etchmiadzin.  Not sure of the date.

Thanks!  God bless the Armenian Church.  Apparently, they're all going to be together at Holy Etchmiadzin again very soon.  :)

That looks right. That's definitely the Catholicos' receiving room at the Mother See. There was a consecration of muron in 1996, shortly after Karekin I took office, so that must be it.

It's Naheere, isn't it?
I've only heard (and read) hymns from it, never seen pictures, so didn't have idea how does it exacly look. So beautiful.

Yes, that is another name for this service.  Traditionally, it takes place at the third or fourth (I forget) watch of the Midnight Office of Holy Monday.  For some reason, it wasn't often celebrated in India (I suspect due to the time of day in which it would be celebrated), but has recently grown in popularity.  The Syrians, IIRC, have simply moved it to Palm Sunday evening in conjunction with Vespers of Monday, so they celebrate it regularly.

Here is a video of the service, recorded in 2011.

That's another conversation for another thread.  ;)  But I agree, I wish we would all celebrate on the same date.  In years like this it doesn't bother me too much.  Next year, it's going to bother me a whole lot.  :P

As per the text with me "Naheere" aka "Vaade 'dalmeeno" is right after the second watch (qauma) of the Lilyo of Holy Monday.

This is know by two names "Naheere" (meaning is "the lights") and also as "Vaade 'dalmeeno" (meaning is "getting nearer to the harbor")

I don't know how imgur works, but I recall Mor suggesting it in the Palm Sunday thread.  Maybe he can explain how it works.

With me, posting pictures is "hit or miss."  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  I wish they (whoever "they" are  :) ) would make it easier.

It depends on the website.  Some websites seem to have a code to restrict the mere appearance of the photo and forces you to see the photo in context of the website it's in.  In these cases, I would just redirect to the link it points to, and if you know for future reference that they cannot be posted here as photos, just give the links.

Thanks. They are my personal photos that I was trying to upload from my iPad. It worked for me last time but not tonight. I wish there was a straightforward way to post photos here.

Bless you.  Palm Sunday is probably my favourite feast of the year to celebrate in the Syriac rite.

Syrian.

Here's why I ask (thanks to Hecma, I found more pictures of the same place):

The monastic skull cap, the "kolonsowa" is usually worn by Syriacs (and Malankara) as back more, showing part of their ear or behind the ear completely.  Copts wear it covering their ear completely.  That's why I was wondering is this might be a visiting Coptic hegumen monk, since we don't celebrate Palm Sunday until later.

Only in India is it universally worn in such a way that the ear is visible.  Elsewhere, I suspect it is worn in whatever way is most comfortable.  For example, you see both styles in your first two photos, and the only real difference is the type of cloth employed in making the monastic hood.

Also, the Syrians follow the Julian calendar for Easter, and for everything in the Holy Land.  Palm Sunday is coming up, these are old photos.  ;)

Ah ok...interesting
Vain existence can never exist, for "unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain." (Psalm 127)

If the faith is unchanged and rock solid, then the gates of Hades never prevailed in the end.

Three of the FIVE people with the title; "Patriarch of Antioch and all the East".

His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II (OO - Syriac Orthodox Church)
His Beatitude Patriarch John X (EO - Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch )
His Beatitude Gregorius III Lahham (RC - Greek Melkite Catholic Patriarch of Antioch)

The RC has two more Patiarch of Antioch;  one from the Syriac Catholic rite and another one from the Maronite rite.

I was just sent this picture.  Apparently, they are building a temporary structure on the side of the Armenian cathedral in Burbank.  A man is going to stay in there for 55 days eating nothing.  It's a hunger strike, I think having to do with the Genocide.  I had not heard about this before now.

Apparently it's finished now and the man is in there:

I've never seen anything like this before.  Its seems he's doing this on behalf of an organization called CAHNA.org.
