Yikes.  Two of the pictures I tried posting in reply 36 didn't show up.  I urge people to go to the site linked in reply 35 to see all the Lalibela pictures.  They're really amazing.

Wow! Those are really nice, Jobin. Do you have more information on them?

Yeah, I'd like to know as well. I think I've seen the second image before, but I've never seen the first one. Reverse image search didn't give me any clues either.

More pictures of the recent SCOOCH meeting can be found here:

http://easterndiocese.smugmug.com/EasternDiocese/SCOOCH-Meets-at-the-Diocesan/i-DQxtRHw/A

There's also a nice official write up on SCOOCH's own site with some interesting info here:

http://www.scooch.org/2015/03/h-h-moran-mor-ignatius-aphrem-ii-visits-the-usa-reaffirms-his-commitment-to-scooch/

I'm getting more and more sick of that hack, partisan "Orthodox Cognate Page".  Some dude posted a link to a really biased blog post he wrote really slamming this meeting over there - obviously with no first hand knowledge of what was discussed at all or what kind of work the fathers were doing there - and I wrote a very polite rebuttal suggestion that the situation was more complicated than his simplistic, one-sided post made it out to be, and that there were other factors involved that he wasn't taking into account (like the fact that the IOC bishop for the East Coast was on the Jacobite side, and a former member of SCOOCH, and switched jurisdictions).  Of course, the OCP made a real cowardly move and deleted all of my comments and let this guy's smear job - which tried to associate SCOOCH with racism and discrimination - stand unchallenged as the narrative of the day.  More and more that so-called "news" site proves that it is simply an unofficial organ for the IOC and can never report with any sort of neutrality on any subject in which the conflict between the IOC and the SOC or the Jacobites comes into play.  You can't even have a polite, reasoned discussion in the comments section over there if you in any way challenge their one-sided narrative.  Whoever runs that joint must be taking lessons from Rupert Murdoch.

I'm with the camp of 13 million Americans that believe politicians are, or are controlled by, Reptilians. I think only monks can solve this problem. It doesn't seem right that they prefer to ignore it.

The one who I wished would be pope

May I ask why?

Two main reasons:
1. A disciple of St. Kyrillos VI (which means he lives in his spirit)
2. He was a non-bishop, which was my preference for who would be consecrated bishop of Alexandria (which also means the other two were also a personal preference as well, and yes they too were Papal candidates)

I did love that man.  I was heartbroken when he and Merropolitan Philip Saliba, who had both played a key role in my conversion, died last year.  I believe what killed them, and also His Beatitude Ignatius IV of Antioch, was the stress and horror of the war in Syria, although the health of His Holimess had been declining for a few years; he had to celebrate liturgies sitting down.

Various ways in which artists depict St. Gregorios Geevarghese (Parumala Thirumeni)

The above is my new personal favourite, love that it is written as an icon and in full vestments

This is the painting I think most people in Malankara are familiar with

They made Father Arsenios Abba Moses a priest! Many years!
Indeed. I met all of the Monks in this photo about 5 years ago. May God protect them.

Looks Maronite to me.  Some of their churches have modernistic mosaics.  But there is better Maronite iconography.  By the way I wish the Syriacs or Copts or both would work to setup a Maronite Orthodox mission; the Maronites have become a distinct West Syriac culture  and I would love to reunite some of them with Orthodoxy.  They had some sort of unpleasant falling out with the Syriac Orthodox before emerging to rival the Druze as the great warlords and masters of Mount Lebanon, and I think their presence in the Middle East is a stabilizing influence despite the Lebanese Civil War, which I don't think was their fault, and in spite of occasional disagreements with the Orthodox.  And I'm sure ISIL wants to kill them too.   :'(

I recently found some lovely Syriac icons written by Maronites, with Syriac and Greek inscriptions.  Would that be acceptable for this thread?  If not I understand entirely.

while I might understand the good intentions of the use of the bindi, I'm not sure if it's appropriate yet given its strong association with another religious tradition

They are indeed not schlock.  I am not a fan of the schlock school of iconography, the nadir of which is represented by the strange "UFO Jesus" in the apse of the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Vegas (which mercifully I have not seen in person).  Now I just have to remember where they are...

That's the lovely interior of St. George's Armenian Cathedral in Georgia.  Note the resplendent iconography and the unadorned bema.

By the way, the beautiful red parament with a gold cross on it in the center of the Bema; what does that conceal, if I might ask?
Axios and many years to you, Fr. Trenham!

Is this the late Malankara Orthodox (independent) patriarch in the group?  He looks like Mar Thoma Matthew (memory eternal).
That's an incredibly interesting picture, from an Armenian perspective. On the left is the current Catholicos Karekin II, at the center is Catholicos Karekin I, and at the right is Abp. Khajag Barsamian of the Eastern Diocese of America. Not sure who the bishop is that the Catholicos is gesturing towards. Looks to be about 1995 or 6?

A tangent about Madagh was split off and put in another thread:
