"D" may sound like English "j" in many Brazilian Portuguese dialects including that of Rio, although only in some contexts not including this one. Adding "h" is presumably a low-literate invention to attempt conveining that sound outside normal contexts.

Amazing! True display of catholicity. What is it all about? The Arabic title may say "ya Allah" ("oh, God") and the Coptic ends in "Theo", which could be a Greek loan for "God" (although Coptic uses "Noute"), so I'm guessing this might be a prayer?

The first word in Arabic is anything but "ya", my mistake. BTW, I was PM'd that it's Psalm 1.

Yeah, as it begins with "tuba ar-ragul" that's "blessed is the man". And the title says "bi-sm Allah", that's in the name of God"

Edit: indeed, it's a great example of catholicity.

Yup, it's the first Psalm...what year was this?  And what's the last language on the right?  A different form of Aramaic?

Nicholas83, where did you get it? I'd like to know if it could be open source to be uploaded to Wikimedia. It would make an amazing head illustration for general articles on Oriental Orthodoxy.

lol...no worries  :)

My thought. Give Fr. Peter some time and it will be missing English. :P

Not a picture, but a video. A new Coptic Church is being constructed not far from where I live. It looks beautiful so far.

I'm assuming you're talking about Fr. John Behr.  I would guess the interest revolves around his newly published translation of one of Origen's most important theological works.

I love Fr. John too, that one book Mor gave me, The Way to Nicaea is fantastic, so sweet of his. I love how he describes Church history at the same time in an Orthodox and scientific way. Looking forward to read the following one of the series.

I guess I was just thinking about some general interest in Origin that I seem to see around here. I didn't know about the translation, though. Thanks for letting me know.

"D" may sound like English "j" in many Brazilian Portuguese dialects including that of Rio, although only in some contexts not including this one. Adding "h" is presumably a low-literate invention to attempt conveining that sound outside normal contexts.

I pronounce D as D and T as T, no palatization.

I feel like after the Catholics came to Ethiopia the icons started getting whiter. Though as you can see there are some exceptions.

This comment reminds me of a time I once watched a video on YouTube that said it was the devil work that Ethiopian children were carrying white icons of Jesus.  :o

Which church is that?  It looks like St. Peters, except I think St. Peters is considerably larger...

Which church is that?  It looks like St. Peters, except I think St. Peters is considerably larger...
