I should clarify that I'm not taking a position on the story, either. The Church's position may very well be ambiguous on the story, or see value in it mostly as a pious speculation, in which case that will be my position too. My intent has been to defend the Church and her trustworthiness and coherence from the beginning.
I don't dispute the coherence and trustworthiness of the Church as a whole, merely that of certain elements.
