Many years!

How wonderful that you have the name "Anastasia!" Very appropriate too!

so, i got back really late today and still had to log in before sleeping to check for an update!
i may be too busy tomorrow to log on so will have to be kept in suspense!

how did it go?
may God give you many years
 :)
Its still going on.  That lifetime confession can really take awhile.  :P

No, she is still feeling the glow of purification, illumination, and sanctification.
I do not think she can even walk on land or get those key strokes going on the computer.

p.s. I had difficulty climbing out of the baptismal font. I wanted to stay in there.

Now that I can identify with. I didn't want to get out either. And yes, I'm pretty much still walking on air. :)

I hope it wasn't some kind of wrong thing to do, but I was busy late, and I had rubbed the oil and chrism in. I didn't want to wash it off last night, so I slept with on.

I've heard not to bathe for days or longer after Holy baptism & chrismation to keep the holy water & chrism as long as possible, some not even removing their baptismal robe.

God grant many years to you!

Pics may take one more day. I was at Church for a long time today - the secretary was helping me with something unrelated. :)

And I'm debating going to a Church consecration in the morning that's a couple hours from here that my priest is going to. So I may need to sleep very soon - I haven't slept much in the past few days.

Just checking in.

Anybody here live near Biloxi or going to that Consecration? Or know anything about Consecration liturgies and if I should go?

Thanks! God bless, all!

Thank you as well. The 39 days, 40 but I'm counting yesterday as day 1, is the for lack of what is probably the correct term is the celebration period after baptism and chrismation. We Orthodox don't celebrate anything for just one day you know.   ;D
In our church, at least we still dress in white every time were in church, still carry our lit candles when we go up for communion and still go up for communion first.  I honestly don't know if anyone else does it that way I guess I assumed that they do but perhaps some of the others can confirm that.  Again,  congratulations. May God grant you many, many years.

LOL, it's true! Celebrations are extended, aren't they?

I was told to wear the same clothing for the first 3 times I receive the Eucharist, and to have the candle burning. Which I have already been to two Divine Liturgies, so Sunday would actually be the third (if I don't go to that consecration, which might mess up the tradition - my Godmother hasn't been at the services so far, and I want her to be able to have her traditional part too :) ).

I hope I'm not supposed to wear white for 40 days, since I don't really have any more white. And the baptism outfit is very thin and not well suited for the cold weather we all of a sudden are having, LOL. I guess the tradition varies a bit.

It's ok, I'll take mine as being only 3 times, since I have to travel, the clothes will make me freeze, and so on. But that's a lovely tradition - the 40 days I mean. I actually like that very much. :)  Seems most fitting!

I came in from Church today and my daughter looked at me and commented that I looked very "white" ... and immediately asked if I had joined the Church. I haven't seen her in a couple of days, as our schedules haven't matched up. But I was glad to tell her that I had, and showed her my Baptismal cross. :)

Thanks for the explanation, and very much for your kind well-wishes. :)  God bless you, dear brother! :)

Pics - finally - sorry it took some time to download, pick a few, upload somewhere, and assemble this. :)

Prayers in the Narthex. That's my Godmother in the background. :)  I couldn't love her more if she were my own Grandmother. And indeed, the first time I laid eyes on her, I felt drawn to her. She does remind me of my Great-Grandma when I was a child, and I loved this dear lady before I even knew her.

Prayers while coming into the Church

Blessing the baptismal water

And the Baptism ...

In the Name of the Father

And of the Son

And of the Holy Spirit

Amen!

Chrismation

Holy Chrism

The Seal of the Holy Spirit
(I am loving all the icons that show in the backgrounds of the pictures - I sincerely felt as though I were surrounded by all of those depicted.)

Receiving my Baptismal Cross. My Godmother chose such a lovely Cross, and it's so precious to me!

One of the prayers after baptism. I like this one because I can just see Christ in the icon of the Resurrection (Anastasis!) in the stained glass window that I normally sit near and look at often during the liturgies.

Blessings and prayers. Thank you, Father!

First time to receive the Eucharist - the Body and Blood of Our Lord!

I love the way the lady who was taking pictures lined this up. Being in Church, up on the solea, surrounded by all the icons, it really brought it home to me that Christ and the Theotokos and the "cloud of witnesses" and all the angels surround us in our liturgies.  I was so very struck by the eyes of the icons of Christ and the Theotokos on the iconostasis, but I don't have pictures of those.

Father M, my Godmother (how do you spell "nu-na"?), and "Anastasia". ;)

Just a small part of my new family!

In the fellowship hall afterwards - I could not stop smiling!

Still smiling as I look back over these. There really is a "newness" to everything. I know I posted a thread earlier in this forum, asking if anyone had things "change" for them after Chrismation or Baptism. I think I wondered mostly because I have been following God for years, and certainly considered myself "saved" before (and I do pray and hope that God would have had mercy on me had I faced judgment then), but the idea of Baptismal regeneration was one of the harder things for me to accept in Orthodoxy. Strange ... that one is actually in the Bible.

And I got mixed answers to my thread - I'm sure representative of the fact that we all have different walks and God deals with us differently at different times.

But I have to say that yes, things have certainly changed for me since being Baptized. Glory to God!

(And indeed, to be fair, they started to change just shortly before, but the biggest difference has been since I was Baptized. Thank God!)

Wow, we met on Christianforums back in March or April and now you, my wife and I are all baptized members of the Orthodox Church......

It truly has been an amazing year......

Some thoughts:

a). I am jealous: you had a REAL purpose-built baptismal tank. If that thing is made out of concrete, they must have brought it in with a forklift. Or do they just leave it there all the time? Ours was a portable aluminum horse watering trough (nicely decorated);

b). Love the Priest's Robe....have never seen a green one like that in our Antiochian parish;

c). Greeks, Greeks and MORE GREEKS........like my priest says: "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" ain't no comedy. Its a documentary.

d). You are smiling like you just ate a great big potato bag full of smile roots!

e). That Icon......that needs 'splainin'. That does not look like the Icon of Anna, mother of the Theotokos

She is SUCH a dear!!! And I think she is largely the reason I'm now "family" with essentially the whole parish - she has lots of Godchildren and the interrelations are such that I'll never figure them all out - but we're all family now!

I really do love her - I'm not just saying that. She's so precious. :)  Thank you, and God bless you. :)

It has been an amazing year! Congratulations again to you and your wife. :)

A year ago at this time I had never heard of the Orthodox Church. It was just after this I joined the forums, so I should be getting my one-year badge there in a couple of weeks. :)  I thank God for that horrible bout of flu-pneumonia that had me doing nothing but studying church history and theology and churches for months. :)

Ahhhh .... I believe what you are seeing IS a nicely decorated horse trough. ;)  It's certainly not there all the time. That's the carpet in the middle of the solea and normally people are lining up there to receive the Eucharist.  :)

I think it's a plastic trough though, and it took the paint fairly well. (In at least one of the pics, you can see the black base through the white paint where it's rubbed off on an edge though.)

I was pleased with how it looks though.

b). Love the Priest's Robe....have never seen a green one like that in our Antiochian parish;

I'm still figuring out the vestments. Father M. has some very nice ones, several different colors for different seasons. I do like this one especially. :)

Quote
c). Greeks, Greeks and MORE GREEKS........

LOL, yes, except for me, the priest, and my sister-in-law, I think everyone there was Greek. We do have a lot of nationalities represented in our parish, but they are still about 90% Greeks. :)

I'm growing to really, really love Greeks. :)

d). You are smiling like you just ate a great big potato bag full of smile roots!

Ummm, yup. And still smiling! My face should hurt by now!

Quote
e). That Icon......that needs 'splainin'. That does not look like the Icon of Anna, mother of the Theotokos

Yeah ... about that ...

No, the icon is of the Baptism of Christ. Most people do get icons of their patron saint, I think.

I'm a little confused on that count. Since my name IS Anna, and I have assumed for some time the mother of the Theotokos would be my Saint ... Well, when Father came out and asked my name for the Baptismal Certificate, the family all replied "Anastasia!" Seems they had a meeting without me, LOL.

One of the Papas did come over and explain to me that it was a Pascha name, and means "Resurrection" and asked if it was ok with me. I actually love the name, and everything leading up to Pascha was a large part of how I knew I needed to join the Church, and I have at least a paper icon of the Resurrection which I look at when I pray, so I feel more connection to that really.

I don't know. I feel bad about that in a way. I still feel a connection to St. Anna as well. And I felt that "Anna" was from God.

So to be honest, I'm kind of confused on the whole Saint / Icon / Name-day thing, and I need to have that sorted out for me.

But my name is Anastasia.

Anna, seeing these pics makes me happy for you all over again.  Not that I stopped being happy in the first place mind you.   :D

Regarding the color generally, I thought, green was for Pentecost but perhaps because of the the Chrismation being Holy Spirit connected.

Thanks, Bob.

I'm not sure about the color. I've tried to figure all of that out. From what I am guessing (and I may be wrong) - it seems either there are some times when maybe a certain color is not specified, and he wears the green then. Or else ... we are coming out of another "green" time because he's been wearing that one, and switched to red this past Sunday?

I'll have to ask him, now that you mention it. He did indeed wear the green for Pentecost, iirc. If the reason is because of the Holy Spirit, I would like to know. :)

Thanks so much - I'm still very happy myself too. :)

God bless you, Bob!!!  And congrats once again on your family's recent celebrations as well!

Our priest switched to blue this Sunday from gold.  I walked in and thought we had a visiting priest at first because I had only seen the gold.

I remember the first time I saw Fr. M. change the color of his vestments. It confused me too. ;)

I have seen him in purple, blue, green, red, gold, and white. I've seen very little of the blue and red, more of the purple and gold, and mostly he wears the green or the white - that I have seen.

Certain times there are specified colors for the Church vestments, but I don't think the priest necessarily has to "match" if he doesn't have vestments in all the colors.

I remember Great Lent was purple, iirc Pascha was white, Pentecost was green I think ... I need to look up the different seasons because I'm curious. :)

The Feast of the Entrance of the Theotokos to the Temple is this week that could explain the blue.

Your correct,  purple is Great Lent,  white is Pascha,  green is Pentecost,  blue is for the Theotokos,  red for Nativity,  and gold for non - specific times.  Wouldn't surprise me though that there could be differences or exceptions.

Your story helps me once more to understand how important it is for us all to remain in Communion, sinners as we are.

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on the old and the young, the poor and the orphans and widows, and those in sickness and sorrow, misfortune and tribulation, those in difficult circumstances and captivity, in prisons and dungeons, and especially those of Thy servants that are persecuted for Thy sake and the Orthodox Faith by godless peoples, by apostates, and by heretics, and remember them, visit, strengthen, comfort, and by Thy power quickly grant them relief, freedom and deliverance.

I'm not going to quote the Church Slavonic version of this in our Prayer Book, but the idea I get from there is that we are praying not only for the deliverance of Orthodox Christians, but also for the overcoming of all apostasy, heresy and schism. Grant this, O Lord! Grant conversion to all peoples!

What a wonderful prayer! Thank you so much for posting it! :)  I do love that we pray far beyond our own Church doors - not only for all Orthodox Christians everywhere, but for peace in the world and the setting free of captives - in various ways praying for people all over the world that they will have an opportunity to come to know God.

Thank you again. Prayer is starting to tug on my heart even more.

It's a Greek tradition and practice that the godparent(s) get to name the baptizee - of course, usually it's a baby! It's actually quite an honor that they named you "Anastasia."

lovely pics.
i think more churches need adult baptistries permanently installed!

in my current church, we have a little baptism room (big enough for 10 people standing, or about 20 egyptians -
we don't mind limited personal space on important occasions!) with 2 baptistries in it,
a little one for babies / smaller kids and a big one for adults / bigger kids.

they get well used, thank God!
 :)

how do other churches manage?

Thank you so much, Katherine.

I need a crash course now in Greek traditions and manners. I've been admonished a couple of times, and I'm trying to catch on. ;)  I actually love the name. I just hadn't thought of "changing" my name, but with every day that goes by, I'm actually even more happy about it.

Anastasia is indeed a great honor (at least to me, for the sake of the meaning of the word).

I will still ask St. Anna for her prayers. :)   I'm sure there's nothing wrong with that. Half of them now call me Anna and half call me Anastasia. As it turns out, St. Anastasia (the one I can find) has some things I can appreciate very much.

Thank you for the link on liturgical colors too. :)

Soooooo much to learn. :)  I have three books borrowed from the Church library today - one is for newly baptized/chrismated, and one is nearly 500 pages of Q&A on the symbolism of everything that is a college handbook - the second will likely keep me busy for a while! The third is on the meanings within icons.

Thanks again, Katherine. :)  You've always been a wonderful encouragement and help to me here, even though I don't post that often. :)
