His name is Andrew. He was RC.
This 17 year old attended school with my nieces and nephews. What went so wrong?
He was a 4.0 student. Played on a number of sports teams. Had a girlfriend. Everyone loved him. He had charm and charisma, and knew how to approach and speak to anyone.
His parents had money. He had the best of everything...and yet, he wasn't spoiled. He was a good kid. He celebrated his first communion, confession, etc. Church was an integral part of his life.
His mother was at all his games, she stood and watched when he spent hours in his robotics club, etc.
They got him a new car last year when he got his driver's licence.
Everything seemed to be going his way....and the world was envious....because he seemed to have it all.
His parents divorced last year, because his father found himself a younger woman. He and his brother and sister bounced between parents...but, seemed to be doing okay.
His birthday was last week, August 15.
Later that day he was "found" at the airport.
He parked his car on the 15th floor of the parking structure....and jumped off.
He left a note in the car. All it said was, "Even on my birthday, I am not special.
August 15, 1997 - August 15, 2014
Nobody saw the signs of pain. Nobody.
If you know kids of divorce, or if a teenager broke up with his girlfriend, or boyfriend, or if they are bullied or if.....whatever....make sure you talk to the teens you know, and let them know they are loved and cared for. To them....even little issues seem overwhelming, because they haven't really "lived" yet, and have no experience from which to pull strength from. It WILL get better, if you give it time....there's always a way out of every situation.
I don't know what led him to this. Nobody knows what broke his heart so badly....what the straw that broke his back was....but, everyone is at a loss.
Please, pray for Andrew (Andy) McGill, who took his own life, on his birthday.
May God forgive him this and any other sin, and show him compassion, forgiveness and mercy, granting him peaceful rest....and may God strengthen his siblings and loved ones.
Lord have mercy....Memory Eternal!
