Theotokos of Passion

We call it "Παναγιά του Χάρου" Theotokos of Charon" (Charon is the personification of death in Byzantine folklore)

This is lovely. Altho it feels strange to see her without her Child.

She would not have Jesus in her arms at the Annunciation, which is the moment that is being depicted.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

Once Christ has filled the Cross, it can never be empty again.

Theotokos of Passion

A company I once worked for had a Christmas publication that included a variation of this icon (it had a lot more blue in it) along with St. Luke's Nativity passage. They just saw Mother and Child and assumed it went together. I didn't see it until 15,000 copies had been printed.

I don't have the wherewithal to go back through this thread, so here's one of mine:

I mounted this exact print for my wife a couple of years ago.

Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

THE OPINIONS HERE MAY NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED ORTHODOX CHURCH

Take a breath, read Ecclesiastes 1:9.

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too
Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl

What does the footprint signify?

It's the Pochaev icon- it represents her footprint from her apparition to the monks there.

(How do you shrink images?)

Inside the image tag you can give a specific width or height, so for example:

(img width=300)image link is here(/img)

(but with brackets rather than parentheses)
