Interview Tomorrow/Thursday
« on: July 23, 2014, 07:39:12 PM »
Please keep me in prayer. I have an interview tomorrow at the University of New Mexico.

Thanks

Lord have mercy.

The memory of God should be treasured in our hearts like the precious pearl mentioned in the Holy Gospel. Our life's goal should be to nurture and contemplate God always within, and never let it depart, for this steadfastness will drive demons away from us. - Paraphrased from St. Philotheus of Sinai

So the interview went really well. The interviewers called me back about an hour and a half after I met with them to informally offer me the position.

Now they just have to do reference checks.

Thank you all for your prayers!  :)

Glory to God!
The term planet earth is an innovation which has arisen in recent centuries with the error of heliocentrism.

If one wants to confess a pure doctrine of Orthodoxy, they should be careful not to refer to the earth as a planet, unlike the current Pope as well as Patriarch Kirill and Patriarch Bartholomew, who regularly speak in error when they refer to our planet earth.

I know, it is a tough wait.  Our prayers are with you.  But also, don't let it drag on.  Don't be hesitant to call and press them about it and to let them know how interested you are.  I may be a priest but I was also once a "headhunter" (i.e. a recruiter who finds talent and makes sure they get the job before anyone else does).  If you don't have a recruiter you will need to be your own, letting them know that you are the right man for the job.  You may think that you are bugging them, but I can tell you from experience on the other end that you are probably up against several people, at least some of which have people "selling" your competitors.  If you are the best person for the job, let them know it.  If you think there was anything lacking in the interview that you forgot to tell them, let the decision maker know.  You may still not get the job, but you will be closer to getting it than if you did nothing.  Remember Christ's words about knocking in the middle of the night:

And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves;  for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;  and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’?  I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.(Luke 11.5-8)

Well,

Things seem to be going really well. The person in charge of hiring has heard from all but one of my references as of yesterday. Today, I left a message asking if my third reference had responded to requests and offered an alternative reference just in case.

The matter is getting a bit complicated because my third reference actually offered me a job when I went to ask him to respond to the reference request yesterday. :)

Signed my official offer letter today, and I will begin work on Tuesday.

Additionally, it looks like I will be teaching some online undergraduate philosophy courses for the school where I completed my MA.

Thank you all for your prayers and support.

The first few days of work have been pretty great. One fantastic benefit is that I will be able to take courses for free. :) I am looking into doing an independent study with a philosophy professor in order to get my thesis published.
