Dear members of this board,

please pray for Sherena Mateo.

She is our good friend and recently gave birth to a daughter.  She and her family live in Hawaii.

She had complications after the birth and had surgery, and is now on life support.

Please pray for her.

She has three young children and a husband who love her dearly.

Thank you.

Asking for all of your prayers, please.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Please continue to pray for Sherena.  She is still in a coma.  Her 3 children have been prevented from seeing her but will visit her in hospital today.

God have mercy!

Dear members of this board,

thank you all for your continued prayers for Sherena Mateo.

Please forgive me for continuing to ask you for your prayers.

But, please, please do continue remembering her.

We have asked for holy oil from the lampada before St John Maximovitch's relics in SF to be shared with her, as well as holy myrrh from the Iveron icon in Honolulu, Hawaii.

An update on her situation (I am paraphrasing information given by her husband, Jason): The doctors took Sherena off her meds.  Sometimes her eyes open.  Sometimes she blinks.  She can squeeze her hand when asked.  She appears to recognize voices, although this cannot be confirmed.

Please continue praying for Sherena.

Thank you,

Dionysius

Dear members of this board,

thank you for your continued prayers and your words of encouragement.

Fr Anatole from the Holy Theotokos of Iveron Russian Orthodox Church very kindly gave Holy Myrrh to Jason, Sherena's husband, so Sherena could be anointed with it.

The family is gathering to pray for Sherena tonight (Tuesday 6/17) at 5pm Hawaii Standard Time (8pm PST, 10pm CST, 11pm EST) and again tomorrow morning (Wednesday 6/18) at 5am HST (8am PST, 10am CST, 11am EST).  Please, if you have a moment at either of those times, pray with us.  Although they are not Orthodox, I beg you to take pity on Sherena and her children.  Please pray that the Lord, through the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos and all the saints, would heal her and restore her to health.  The family is asking that prayers be said especially for the recovery of her sight, motor skills, and mental faculties, and for the doctors and nurses who are providing Sherena with care.  She is still in a coma, but as Maria so encouragingly pointed out, showing signs of life (blinking, squeezing her hand).  Please pray for her full recovery and healing--in body and soul.

Forgive me for continuing to ask of your charity.

Asking for your prayers,

Dionysius

Dear members of this board,

forgive me, but I beg you again to please remember Sherena Mateo in your prayers.

Her condition remains unchanged, at least outwardly.

Here is a brief update from her husband, Jason:
She is going through a tough time, but she is still with us and fighting. I'm thankful that she's a strong woman. I'm praying every day at 5am and 5pm (Hawaii Standard Time). One, to stay strongly connected with God and two, to praise God's miracle in the healing of Sherena's mind (sight, mobility, and focus). If you feel empowered to join me, I  believe in strength of collective prayer...
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:19, 20 NKJV).

Please forgive my continual asking of your charity.

Asking for your prayers.

For those watching this post: thank you so much for your continued prayers.

An update:  Jason and the Mateo family continue to pray for Sherena every day at 5am and 5pm Hawaii time (8 and 8 PST, 10 and 10 CST, 11 and 11 EST).  They have been anointing Sherena with the oil from the lampada before St John Maximovitch's relics in San Francisco.  Jason says that her eyes open more often, but still are not focused.  When he says things to her, sometimes she smiles widely.  Visitors believe that she is recognizing them.  When her newborn daughter (1 mo. old) is placed on her chest, Sherena smiles.  Once, when being massaged, Sherena moved her arm.  We are taking all of these as signs of God's healing.  We hope that Fr Anatole from the Holy Theotokos of Iveron Russian Orthodox Church, who gave Holy Myrrh to Jason, Sherena's husband, can also arrange for the myrrh-streaming copy of the Iveron icon that is in Honolulu to visit Sherena in Straub Hospital..

Thank you for your prayers. I beg you to please continue praying for Sherena.

For those continuing to watch this post:  Thank you so much for your faithful prayers.

Update from Sherena's husband, Jason:
"She has been fighting hard.  Starting to talk, very slowly, but she is showing that she is alert!  Praise God!  Her body is still heavy, so she hasn't gotten out of bed on her own, yet.  But I believe that through the grace of God...she will recover.  She has been medically cleared to leave the hospital.  Now we need to find a rehab center to strengthen her skills."

This is great progress.

Jason also reports that she has said:  "I love you."  "Hello."  "Thank you, mom."  She has tried to say her name.

More from Jason: "She smiles more.  Cries with emotion.  Reacts to pain."

Sherena's family is still praying for her complete recovery, for God to restore her ability to sit up, walk, and eat well.  They are grateful for her progress so far and are thankful for the continued prayers.  Sherena seems determined to work very hard for her recovery as well.

I will continue to share updates and beg you for your continued prayers.

Dionysius

For all who are kindly watching this post, thank you so much for your continued prayers.

Here is an update about Sherena's health.

She is out of the hospital now and in an inpatient facility where she is receiving physical therapy.  She is saying some words and verbalizing more often.  She eats a small breakfast every day (a good sign; it shows that she's recovering use of those muscles).  The road ahead of her involves learning to walk and talk again.  It is still very challenging for Sherena, Jason and family and they are looking at the possibility of having Sherena moved to a facility in California (California Pacific Medical Health Center in San Francisco).

The family asks your prayers for Sherena's transfer to California Pacific Medical Health Center, as it has resources that can better serve her recovery (the facility she is now in was not designed to help people in her situation; they mostly serve the elderly).

They also ask that you please continue praying for her speedy and full recovery.

On a positive note, Reader Nectarios, of the Holy Theotokos of Iveron Russian Orthodox Church brought the myrrh-streaming icon to visit Sherena.  He also said prayers for her and offered comfort and encouragement.   Thank you to Reader Nectarios.

Forgive our continued requests.  I beg you to please continue to remember Sherena and her family in your prayers.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Praise the Lord.

St. Seraphim of Sarov, intercede to God that Sherena may be granted health and salvation.
