Not praying the Agpeya with Abouna's blessing.
« on: June 03, 2014, 01:12:36 AM »
Hello All,

I was wondering if the Coptic Orthodox church has any canons that stipulate that a person must pray the Agpeya every day? I tend to like to pray without books, particularly the "Jesus Prayer" and just praying straight from the heart with prostrations. I have been given a blessing in the past to do so from my Abouna and was wondering if anyone else has had  this experience with prayer and what do the church canons say about all this. Please forgive my grammar i don't usually go on forums and thanks for allowing me to be apart of your online community. God Bless you all.

Welcome to the forum!

I wouldn't be too legalistic about it.  If your priest has said it's OK to pray the way you are praying, you should be OK.   :)

This.

There is no such canon that I know of. What you are doing under the auspices of your priest is just fine.
Vain existence can never exist, for "unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain." (Psalm 127)

If the faith is unchanged and rock solid, then the gates of Hades never prevailed in the end.
