Pray for me...It's Time for a Promotion!
« on: April 21, 2014, 11:34:40 AM »
I just got the word(Literally in the middle of the Resurrection Liturgy yesterday) from the head subdeacon at my church and my bishop(who told me personally) that its time for a promotion!(Those were His Grace's exact words! haha!) I will be ordained αναγνώστης (reader) the next time HG is visiting our church. Pray for me that I may learn and understand the Word of God, read the gospel diligently, remain obedient and humble, and serve God faithfully.

Reader is a step up from Deacon in the Coptic Church?

At any rate, many years and Lord have mercy all at once!

Christ is Risen!
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

THE OPINIONS HERE MAY NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED ORTHODOX CHURCH

Take a breath, read Ecclesiastes 1:9.

My only weakness is, well, never mind

His Grace our Bishop hasn't visited since the Resurrection Feast. I think he will be with us on Pentecost. I don't think ordinations can be performed on Feast Days though.....hmm.

It's postponed. My father of confession had to go to Egypt on short notice and he needs to be present.

Yeah but I bet your sticharion is awesome and you can wear an inner riassa. Only full clergy can wear riassas/cassocks in our church. Not even subdeacons can. Thank you though!

Officially, readers in the Coptic church do wear a stole, however, this is seen by many to be an untraditional introduction.

So can your name be changed at: baptism, chanter, reader, subdeacon, deacon, archdeacon, priest, khoriepiscopos, bishop.

Or is there no name change between some of these ranks?
I'm assuming a priest -> hegumen also cannot change his name

I suppose it's true for any rank, but I don't know. I have seen cases where bishops assign a name to a child who does not have a saint name when they are presented to be chanters.
