Memory eternal for the patriarch.  May his prayers be with us!  God be with the Syriac church in this crucial and tough time.

One can't help but notice that month of March is filled with lots of memories of departures for us in recent decades.

i mean, of course he was elderly and in poor health, but he was very well loved by many.

may God reward him for all his work even into advanced age and sickness and may the Lord comfort and guide His children.
he has gone to celebrate the resurrection feast in heaven with the Lord.
remember us in our prayers dear father as we remembered you in the liturgy.
(the coptic and syriac churches remember each other's patriarchs)

Today as a Syriac Christian, I'm very sad. Moran mor ignatius Zakka I Iwas was a very god person. He has done some great thing for the orthodox church, and hes love will always be remembered.

As per news reports, the body of H.H will be brought from Germany to Lebanon on March 27th and from there taken to Damascus.  The funeral is planned for March 30th at Dayro d' Mor Ephrem (St. Ephrem Monastery) , Ma'arat Sayyidnaya, just outside of Damascus, Syria.

I was just told by a Syrian brother that The next Patriarch was supposed to be one of the two kidnapped by Turkey Bishops, namely, Bishop Yuhanna Ibrahim. A coincidence?

Divine Liturgy was today concelebrated at Mor Jacob Monastery, Warburg, Germany, where the mortal remains of the Patriarch is currently kept by various Bishops of the Syriac Orthodox, Coptic Orthodox and Ethiopian Orthodox church. The body of the Patriarch will be taken to Lebanon tomorrow.

The mortal remains of H.H Ignatius Zakka is now at Lebanon. The Catholicose of the East H.B Baselious Thomas I has reached Lebanon from India to lead the funeral.

The Service of Zuyoho for the Late Patriarch was held in Germany. In the service, Patriarch is carried by the bishops to the four sides of the church. On each side, they knock the coffin three times against the altar or the church walls.

During the service, a bishop chants on behalf of the deceased "Phush Bashlom" (remain in peace O altar, O church, O faithful, etc.), the clergy then respond "Zel Bashlom..." (go in peace). It is then a moving farewell act.
