Lord, have mercy on the Christians in Mosul!

« on: February 27, 2014, 03:04:13 AM »

I invite Fr. George to confirm this, but I think the day close enough to give you all a heads up on what will probably happen next Monday, Clean Monday, the first day of Great Lent. OrthodoxChristianity.net has an annual tradition of shutting down completely for a few days out of every year. Those days include Clean Monday and all of Pascha from the Vigil of Holy Friday to the beginning of our Paschal celebrations. As such, the admins of this forum will very likely shut this forum down for Clean Monday next Monday, March 3, to free you all to get a good start on your Lenten fasts.

Have a blessed Lent, everyone.

asteriktos, there is a nice forum promoting tasbeha (coptic orthodox night praises) which doesn't shut down.
if you don't know the web address, send me a p.m. (i wouldn't want to get in trouble for advertising!)
i actually post more here than i do there, but there are a few people who go there regularly.

or you can spend the day in prayer instead...

Perfect. Starting Monday, my goal is to begin commuting to an Orthodox Church.

Lord have mercy, pray for me.

Though, I recognize this is not the best time. But, it's only very recently that I've gotten the means to commute.

I'm going to New Orleans to engage in an orgy with all the WASPs who think they know what Mardi Gras is. But I get to go to confession on Wednesday and get ashes while they will just wake over with a hangover.

Ha! Seriously though I think the Clean Monday Shutdown and other shutdown days are a good idea anyway. I am getting of Facebook for Lent. Midnight Ash Wednesday I shut down my Facebook until either Holy Saturday evening or midnight on Easter Sunday.

Also, please forgive me, a sinner.

Radio talk show host Neal Boortz was fond of saying that when he was on the air.  Heard him say it for years,  but I'm not sure if he coined it.  Like Arachne wrote, it's been around for a while.

So can we get confirmation on this happening? I don't even understand how there could be confusion? I thought you guys behind the scenes here had a command center set up with statistics and analytics and directives and chains of command and all sorts of stuff. Wow, when it said it'd be back up "early Tuesday morning" or something along those lines I thought they meant like 8am. It feels good to again have an excuse to put off reading and other more productive things in life.  angel
