Orthodox Pilgrimage/Retreat in South-West England in May
« on: February 08, 2014, 01:52:20 PM »
I came across this event from the British Orthodox Church:

http://www.orthodoxpilgrimages.co.uk/

I always feel like I am missing out when I see stuff like this.  Where I live, the closest thing there is to a pilgrimage site is the Hollywood Walk of Fame.   :)

Maybe if Fr. Peter sees this, he can tell us more about it.

I wish there were a British Orthodox Church in the U.S.

I can see it now "the British Orthodox Church of the United States of America within the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria, Egypt." :P
"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die [...] These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. Now Now....Great Sites of Glendale beats the Walk of Fame....;)
All opinions expressed by myself are quite tragically my own, and not those of any other poster or wall hangings.

Amen.  I'd fully support a British Orthodox mission to the former colonies!   ;)

Worship is theology, so a church which brings Evangelical and Charismatic "praise & worship" into its corporate life is no longer Orthodox.  It is, by definition, heterodox.  Those "Orthodox" leaders who make theological arguments for the incorporation of heteropraxis into the life of the Church are heretics.

Yes, I have organised a Pilgrimage/Retreat to the South-West of England, 26th-30th May. It is fully inclusive of accommodation and travel etc once participants arrive at the place we are staying, which is a small hotel In Teignmouth run by a contact of mine who is Reader in Early Medeiaval Archaeology at Winchester University.

There will be Morning and Evening Prayers according to the Orthodox Tradition each day, with a spiritual reflection on a theme throughout the week. In the evenings there will also be some interesting lectures on the history of the early Church in the area and in the UK.

We plan to visit Buckfast Abbey, the Shrine of St Wita at Whitchurch Canonicorum, Glastonbury Abbey and Wells Cathedral, Tintagel and some of the Holy Wells and crosses of Cornwall.

It looks like being spiritually fruitful and lots of fun.

Please visit the website and book your space. Places are limited. Visit the Registration Page for details of costs...

I would love to, but we cannot make it. Maybe one day!
Clumsily walking a narrow path and getting most of it wrong, but I'm still walking...

It was great fun. The hosts were welcoming and made us feel part of their family. We visited many interesting places and were guided around by well informed friends and experts.

Next year I am planning a retreat that will not travel around much, just an afternoon out, with the rest of the time spent near our base.

I am also planning another travelling around exploring early Christianity week.

And I am planning a week studying one of the ancient language, possibly New Testament Greek.

I'll post some pictures this afternoon.
