HBO has a short series, "True Detective", starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, set in southern Louisiana in the '80s and '90s, with some heavy-duty metaphysical and philosophical speculations intertwined therein, mixed in with Southern culture and religion.

Recently, one scene was of a country evangelist, with a Cajun twang, leading a tent-revival, and quite realistic preaching. If you haven't been to a tent revival (or even if you have), it might be worth a look, though his talk of each of us having a "true face" not yet known to us, and his brief reference to neurophysiological processes, are not the usual topics of such Pentecostalistic homilies. (You can see the McConaughey and Harrelson characters standing at the back of the tent, in one or two scenes.)

The one thing I miss is a good revival down in the holler.

Y'all really didn't enjoy them?  There's no sense in going to them now that I'm Orthodox, but I always had a good time.  What, other than the theology, didn't you like about them?

They lasted too long and were too loud.  In the many I attended, many people were "saved", but the feel-good effects wore off real quick; no follow-up for those folks.  In the end it was a numbers game.

"47 people gave their lives for Christ tonight!"  "Woooooooooh!"

Sunday following the "revival", church building is as empty as ever.
