Philip Seymour Hoffman, Actor, Dies at 46......
« on: February 02, 2014, 08:34:22 PM »
What  a shame, a damn good actor from what I ever seen in the films he was in.

Damn drugs, these hollywood type have it all and STILL aren't happy.

May God have mercy on his soul.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Actor, Dies at 46

Philip Seymour Hoffman, perhaps the most ambitious and widely admired American actor of his generation, who gave three-dimensional nuance to a wide range of sidekicks, villains and leading men on screen and embraced some of the theater’s most burdensome roles on Broadway, died Sunday at an apartment in Greenwich Village. He was 46.
The death, apparently from a drug overdose, >:( was confirmed by the police. Mr. Hoffman was found in the apartment by a friend, David Bar Katz, who became concerned after being unable to reach him.
Investigators found a syringe in his left forearm, at least two plastic envelopes with what appeared to be heroin near where his body was found in a bathroom, and five empty plastic envelopes in a trash bin, a law-enforcement official said.

I'll never forget what a tremendous job he did in portraying the parish priest he did in the movie "Doubt". I think he was nominated for an Oscar, of course Streep was amazing in her own right as the nun and  principal of the school.

A powerful performance by both, Hoffman was one of the best of his time.

Oh man, seems he kicked the habit for 23 yrs before falling back into it again last year.

23yrs clean and now he's dead. Just like that. This story just keeps getting worse.

"The actor said he kicked the habit for 23 years and had remained sober until May 2013 when he briefly relapsed and returned to rehab after admitting to snorting heroin. "

We have more threads dealing with PSH's death than evolution.

And of course the overestimation of Doubt.

By overestimation, do you mean you consider it overrated?

In how it is held around here especially from that fact it seems to be what everyone is mentioning, yeah. The movie was meh and the acting wasn't great given the stilted story. This is from a relatively vague recollection cause the movie is rather forgettable.

Lord have mercy. So sad, he was so talented.

Agreed. Not his best work. Of course it's difficult not to be a ham when you are playing opposite a ham like Meryl Streep.

I hate to question a couple of experts like Siskel and Ebert here.......

But Hoffman was nominated for an Oscar in his role in the movie" Doubt".

As a matter of fact all the film's four main actors were nominated for Academy Awards.

Not bad for a piece of junk, eh ortho? ;D

I must confess that I thought it was quite well done.

I liked it OK. I just didn't think it was a great movie.
