I hear the word "unionism", not often but every once in a while; for example, Lutherans in the LCMS have their "Renunciation of unionism and syncretism".

I'm just wondering if anyone here has any thoughts regarding how to understand that term? (When I say thoughts, I'm not looking for a dictionary, which I already have. Also, I'm hoping this won't turn into a "Unionism means mixing the goodness and truth or Orthodoxy with the badness and falsity of Roman Catholicism" kind of thread.)

Thanks in advance!

Sounds just like a generic term for uniting all churches to one, to at least an informal recognition

My brain thinks of the steelworkers or miners in the early 20th century rather than religion with that term.

Coming from a lineage of tradesmen, that's what I think as well.  laugh
