There isn't a fabric I hate more than corduroy.

Did your folks dress you in it when you were little?

My grandmother. Every year with the corduroy pants and gaudy shirts ("Gram, I can't wear this!" "Oh don't be silly! No one looks at what's on your shirt!")  :P 8) :'(

I have a weird sensitivity to it. If it brushes my fingertips I get really unpleasant chills. And it's a nightmare if it gets wet.

Corduroy is awesome. It's perfect material for autumn and winter. It looks good, keeps you warm, protects you from all kinds of foul weather and doesn't make you look over-dressed even if you dressed nicely.

I can't wear a bowler hat anymore. Or pretty much any nice black hat for that matter. A combination of a beard and a black hat makes you instantly look like an Orthodox Jew.

I dislike bowler hats.

Besides, you need a long, black overcoat to pull the Jew look.

I do have a long black overcoat. I like bowlers and the combination of a bowler hat and a long black overcoat looks fine. Adding beard into the mix makes it look like a costume.

Don't they wear frock coats instead of black overcoats?

Depends on your definition of what a frock coat is.  The bekishe or rekel are not frocks.

There was some local news on him visiting Finland during some business trip. Finland is as republican (small 'r') as it gets but our tabloid papers like to write about royalty which is kind of amusing.
