What are you basing this on? Vests with lapels are quite correct on three-piece tuxedos and suits at the very least.

Low cut vests, such as those that are worn with tuxedos and tailcoats, should have lapels. I'm definitely not a fan of lapels on normal vests. It just ain't right.

I like this combination.

Spotted tie, pinstripe vest and salt-and-pepper jacket? Really?  :P

And then there's the lapel...

The lapel on the vest? Yep, shouldn't be there if a jacket is worn. In fact, I don't think vests should have lapels at all.

What are you basing this on? Vests with lapels are quite correct on three-piece tuxedos and suits at the very least.

Of course a pinstripe vest with an otherwise 'country casual' outfit is grossly incoherent but that's a separate issue.

When did the vest come into the picture?  ???  The guy's wearing a suit with a coat over it.

Wow! You are so correct.

Guess the others were seeing something.

This model must be very thin and not very muscular.

The picture comes from an Italian clothesmaker, so in all likelihood it is an malnourished Italian male.

As if malnourished people wear designer clothes possibly worth thousands of dollars. That the guy isn't American-sized doesn't mean he is malnourished.

Malnourishment doesn't automatically relate to poverty.

Anorexia is alive and well in the modeling world, even with men.  Ain't he dandy?

Mind you, more than a few female catwalk models look unhealthily thin. And let's not forget the ghastly fad of "heroin chic" from a few years ago ....  :P >:( >:(

Good heavens, is that a catwalk in Treblinka?

Anyhow, the guy with the strange peppercoat doesn't seem to have anorexia.

Anytime you feel like it. :)  I learned that you wear it in the evening, but really anytime is usually all right.

It is inappropriate to wear a crazy colorful one at a funeral.

As for shirts, make sure the collar isn't a button-down type.

Button-down shirts are quite nice. I like the fact that it's casual but not too casual. Can be worn almost everywhere without looking neither badly dresses or too fancy. I also like the skinhead aesthetics.

I just need to find out how to say it in Slavonic!

Okay, dandies, when is the approriate time to wear a bow tie?

Solid black and white bow ties are reserved to the respective dress codes named for them. Other bow ties may be worn any time you would wear a standard necktie, but they do have kind of an evening flavour due to their association with formal eveningwear. As a result I would limit the frequency of their daytime appearance to once or twice a month and keep the rest of the outfit conservative when I do it.

EDIT: Also do not wear them in circumstances where it would be unseemly to draw excessive attention to your clothing or where you are trying to impress someone who may or may not like this polarising accessory -- in other words, avoid them at funerals and job interviews.

Okay, dandies, when is the approriate time to wear a bow tie?

Unless it's black or white tie, with their appropriate dress code, you could better wear a necktie instead. Most people just look gay with a bow tie, only few can pull it off. A dark red bow tie with a cummerband is your best choice if you really want to wear them.

i would welcome men wearing colourful bow ties to my funeral.
i haven't planned it yet (not currently terminally ill), but i love bow ties, so think they should be shown in all colours.

i will accept cyrillic wearing a less colourful one, as i don't want him to break his strict style codes just for me.
;-)

other men's clothing that will be welcomed is anything asian (e.g. shalwar khameez) and especially anything with a round neck and no collar.
(i think collars were invented by a recently divorced woman...)

about a 4.
firstly, no bow tie!

secondly, no beard!
 :o

thirdly, wearing sports trousers when not doing sports.
that's as bad as those ladies that wear t shirt material ('jersey') as a dress and think that somehow it does not show off evey single
bump and wobble of their bottom.
(warning - there are several dresses these days that have nice sleeves from cotton or polyester and then the rest of the dress is shapeless jersey)

other than that, it's fine!
 ;)

Okay, dandies, when is the approriate time to wear a bow tie?
Or more, when is it not apporiate to wear one?

Also, with what shirts should I pair one with?

The mister is more likely to wear one at work than a regular tie, especially if he wears a waistcoat as well as a blazer. He favours patters of checks, dots or paisley (my personal favourite). Of course, he rocks the eccentric scientist look; not everyone can do the same.

This is how I spend every waking moment outside of work.  On a scale of 1-10, how fashionable am I?

Hoodies? Aren't you a bit too old and white for hoodies?
No and no. Hoodies can be worn by anyone.  It is only when they are worn by non-white people do they become menacing and symbols of violence.  When white people wear them, we are saying: we are fat, we are lazy and we are ok with the world knowing it.
God bless!

You spend every waking moment outside of work posing in that one position in that one place  ??? ??? ???  That actually explains quite a lot. ;D

I can't help it if I constantly look heroic and brooding all at the same time, it is a burden that God has placed on my shoulders and I must carry on.  ;)
God bless!

about a 4.
firstly, no bow tie!

secondly, no beard!
 :o

thirdly, wearing sports trousers when not doing sports.
that's as bad as those ladies that wear t shirt material ('jersey') as a dress and think that somehow it does not show off evey single
bump and wobble of their bottom.
(warning - there are several dresses these days that have nice sleeves from cotton or polyester and then the rest of the dress is shapeless jersey)

other than that, it's fine!
 ;)

Bumps and wobbles are the best.

Izod chukkas would be better.

No. Visible logos in clothes are horrible but visible logos in shoes are even more horrible.
I just need to find out how to say it in Slavonic!

Context, my friend.  ;)  Fashion-challenged charbelkaleab needed a suggestion to complete his Izod-tastic ensemble.

Are you suggesting cummerbunds with day wear? Under what conceivable circumstances could that be appropriate?

No. You can only wear cummerbunds with tuxedos or plain black blazers.
