Winter Solstice!
« on: December 21, 2013, 09:29:41 AM »
And a happy Winter Solstice to you all! Anyone have special plans? A Solstice party perhaps? What's going on?

I had forgotten all about it, until I saw the Google logo this morning.

Susan Cooper, who wrote the Dark is Rising series, worked with the man who created "The Christmas Revels".  For that she wrote a poem "The Shortest Day" which is recited at the end of every Revels performance in whatever city they are performed, I'm told.

"So the shortest day came, and the year died,
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away...."

I'm going to find some Wiccans and offer them to the Lord.

I'm at a cyber-party on G+ with a few pagan friends. It's a good opportunity to meet up (which doesn't happen often), and doesn't violate the fast with booze or nibbles. ;)

I mentioned this comment in passing to my pagan friend and she responded "Oh really?" and then cackled and looked around like she was up to something. Please be careful the next few days, just in case!

LOL.  The funny thing is I edited myself.  Originally, "...and offer them to the Lord" was "...and sacrifice them as a sweet-smelling oblation offered by fire to the LORD of hosts."  But then I thought it would be better not to provoke them excessively.  With friends like you, however, I might as well say whatever I want because you're going to go tell on me anyway.

Would they have to be Wiccans, or would you take other kinds of pagans as well? We have Druids, Heathens, Kemetics and Hellenists here, but Wiccans are in rather short supply. :P

I picked that group because it is the one I've most heard of.  Certainly, if they need time to breed, I can sacrifice some of the others for now.

And Asteriktos, don't go talking to your friends about this exchange.

Never met any of those, so I'll take your word for that. :police:
