That is how the list of names for the Saints expands and allows national names to eneter the  martyrology of the church.

Christ Is Born!

Raised a Roman Catholic with the name "Ronald" always made me feel out of place in our parish school.  One day the Sister who was our teacher asked us about our patron saint.  When she came to me, I sadly said, "My name's not a Saint's name."  She responce was one that always made me feel good, she said, "Well if you aren't named after a saint, then it is your vocation in life to make it a saint's name."  Now I'm Orthodox and a monk, and soon to be a deacon and I still like her answer.

The unworthy hierodeacon, Vasyl
