Paint It Red

« on: October 24, 2013, 10:41:36 PM »

And no not the flame for Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca.

I haven't seriously watched a movie since forever, and most of the time when I do I normally doze off.

But I want to start watching again, all the classics (and cult), etc.

However my time after work is severely limited.

I get off work most days at 5:30PM. I try to go to bed around 9:30PM in order to wake up at 6AM to start my workday. On weekends I'm up til about 6AM then I crash all day.

If I can better segment my time, I will enjoy watching movies instead of panicking I only have 4 hours of time before I need to go to sleep.

I'll get to TV Shows later.

Thanks.

TV is easier for me to get into during the week.

I made my Halloween list just to stop screwing EDIT: around so much.

So far I've watched 5 movies.

I would suggest you need to pick an angle, a theme, a screenplay writer, a director, etc. A mixture of stuff you haven't seen and have. Get some materials about the stuff and do a more systematic viewing of the material.

I like that idea of sorting it by writer or director or whatever

I just wish I felt like I had more time after work. It goes by way too quick.

My best recommendation on motivation would be to use incentive theory. Perhaps make some of your favorite food and allow yourself to eat it after watching a movie.  If you are having difficulty motivating yourself to put on a movie, perhaps reading Watson or Skinner would assist you in better understanding ways to reward yourself for having undertaken a difficult project such as turning on the Blu-ray player or hooking up the live streaming capability.  With practice, you can even begin to use the movie itself as a self motivating tool.

Seriously?  Motivation in order to waste your time?  Wink

Leave the movies for Sunday after Divine Liturgy.

During the week, do something more productive.

I used to love watching movies, more so when I only worked 10 hours a week a few years ago.

My Sundays after Divine Liturgy are usually reserved for contemplation on things and I'm in a self reflective mood...so yeah. I'm more in the mood to read the Bible after DL then watch movies.

Yeah its a waste of time but I'm usually exhausted after work and need to unwind a bit.

I watched the American Film Institute's Top 100 films (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFI's_100_Years...100_Movies) when I got bored with movies.  I saw some films for the first time and many with a more critical eye.  I watched them with a co-worker (not at the same time) and we'd discuss the movie.  It was fun.  I'm actually going to do it with my friend and our wives as they have admitted in not seeing Fargo, The Godfather, or The Deer Hunter.  My friend and I have decided to rectify that situation by doing this.  Some good food and drinks with good movies, you'll be fine. The Coen Brothers I need to watch all of them. I've seen maybe 2 that I recall off the top of my head. No Country For Old Men and A Serious Man.

I want to see Good Will Hunting

Yeah I mean those aggregates top lists are good to watch the supposed classics.

I don't know why but my Blu Ray copy of Godfather sounds really quiet. Almost inaudible. Don't know why.

I really like O Brother, Where Art Thou.  I think that was one of the Coen Brothers best. Very ingeniously done.

Hey buddy,

The reading groups here have never worked, maybe you should suggest a movie group. Takes less time and maybe you can integrate two of your hobbies together.

So you develop some watching list and post it.

I would argue that proper watching of film is some of the most productive work you can do.
