To the recent board discussion:

Quote
When I first started writing about religion for an online news site, I eagerly turned to the comment section for my articles, fishing for compliments and wondering if I had provoked any thoughtful discussions about faith.
I don’t wonder anymore.
When I look at the comment section now, I see a whole lot of “yo mamas” being tossed about. Readers exchange juvenile insults, condescending lectures and veer off into tangents that have nothing to do with the article they just read.

Well you had GiC and that Enechustungproblem. I'm not sure who else, oh and my socket puppet back in the day.

GiC was a good foil I thought. Then you had real lunatics like that Jackel fellow who had nothing come out of his mouth but gibberish. You should have seen him compare Christianity to some sort of sun god (not Horus) and used volcanos, or supposedly St Paul referenced volcanos and Christ's head was a real sun moving around in Jerusalem.

I mean I thought it was a parody or something, but he was 100% serious. Talk about a gold medal gymnist.

And BTW Will, don't be fooled by the sort of presence of online atheism reflecting outside in the world. Only the internet will people listen to them.

True, I wonder why that is.  Maybe because the pat responses don't work well here as we aren't sola scriptura and Orthodox doctrine is lesser known and therefore harder to argue against.

I am too lazy to read through all of them.

Not to mention they are about as entertaining and specific as the daily horoscope.

Plus it calls Peter Singer a "person of good will."

Provoker in-training to be a Street Corner Prophet.

I've noticed this board is the only religious one I've ever seen without a sizable atheist minority.
True, I wonder why that is.  Maybe because the pat responses don't work well here as we aren't sola scriptura and Orthodox doctrine is lesser known and therefore harder to argue against.
More like it is hard to argue against THE TRUTH.

I've shown atheists this board before, and they all think we are nutjobs. Not even kidding.
I'll take that as a compliment.  Grin

Then I'm at home, everyone thinks I'm a nutjob

Heraclius' war against the Sassanids to recapture the True Cross is sometimes called the "first crusade", so he's not the first Orthodox crusader.

I thought that it also applied to me until I read  the last paragraph: "CAUTION: Sometimes Imposter,   Evil Clown or Troller will masquerade as Eagle Scout. There have also been reports of Eagle Scout becoming Jekyl and Hyde."  Smiley

I like to think of myself as a scholar except higher.  Maybe demigod is a more accurate description.
