On the subject of radio programs about places from where oc.netter's don't hail . . .

The following radio show about the Ukrainian Exclusion Zone is worth 18 minutes of your life, if you know nothing about it.

Quote
When the writer Henry Shukman first heard about the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, he was intrigued that even though it had been the site of a nuclear reactor disaster, it was Europe's largest wildlife refuge. For more than 25 years, only a few humans have been allowed to enter the 1,600 square miles of land around the nuclear reactor there. But Shukman tells host Dick Gordon about a family who returned to the exclusion zone. They and others who have done the same are known as "resettlers."

You might want to read the post.

It's not complicated.

Listen to the radio program as well. I have no idea what your point is.

Since it is clear some here lack the ability to appreciate the poetic though they have the experience to understand the nuance, the thread title in conjunction with the one about Michal were the product of pure serendipity on the radio today which I wanted to share.

That folks lack any appreciation of the loving homage is a sad thing.

Great link I've been following for years on Chernobyl.

Oh yes, also don't forget.... Random FYI - Chernobyl translates into "wormwood".

cool link op.

He  needed a catchy title...

its about the Ukraine.  You are (likely) the only Ukrainian that he knows, and thus he made a juvenile play on words since the radiation mutates things. And he knew that people would read a thread with your name in it, so well loved are you.

it's Orthonorm, did you really want -real- thought behind it?

Oh, there was real thought behind it. The question is: What WAS he thinking?

Wow. I think we should reconsider the general tone of the board around here. I feel sorta vulnerable right now.

If you could add the last 32% to the reason it is named what it is, I would give you a prize. Also, if you made your putdowns a little snappier.

It's crazy, too bad people are concentrating on the title though.

NOVA had a fascinating episode this year about biodiversity and wolves in the containment zone around Chernobyl. A Romanian scientist was profiled. The entire episode was quite haunting.

Believe what you want, orthonorm, but we're really not cretins or some intellectually deficient, uncultured boors.  (Well, some of us may be......)

I digress.

Having neither a portal into your cranium nor a compatible HDMI cable to connect directly into your synapses, it is often difficult to rapidly assimilate your attempts at whatever, resulting from what, to the outsider, seems to stem from ennui. Sometimes we, the unwashed masses, just don't get "it."

Oh well.

I do not have problems with understanding orthonorm for most of the time. I cannot say that about some other posters.

Define 'most of the time.' Most times I get it, but sometimes? - not so much.....

Orthonorm can be exceedingly clear and easily understandable when he so chooses.  But sometimes.....he just doesn't chooses.  It's his way.  Oh well....

And yes...what is/has been happening around Chernobyl is absolutely fascinating and full of wonder.

And no, I am neither a cretin nor intellectually deficient (at what point does sufficiency end and deficiency begin  Grin?) .  I might, however, be an uncultured boor.  Cool

The fact that I understood 68% of your thought process is terrifying enough that I don't need to insult you.

So, Orthonorm...since you specifically referred to me in the title, I'd like an explanation, please.

I'm not like Michal, and therefore, do not understand your implication.
