A rose by the same name smells just as sweet. (Sorry Shakespeare!) But honestly if the Arabic word "Allah" is used by Arabic speaking Christians for the Christian God, how in the hell can they be thinking the same Allah as Muslims?

The Bible does not allow this as it overtly violates the first of the Ten Commandments.

 laugh Yeah, I regret it.

So Theo, what word would you suggest Arabs use? A non-Arabic word?

PP

I have already made my suggestion, but let me repeat.  Wink

Instead of Allah, they must use ILAH alone.
We don't let Turks tell us what to do anymore.

No one is asking you to do that. Follow the Bible and stop worshipping the false god of Arabia. Turn your hearts to Yahwe, the only true God of the universe. Do not let your Arab nationalism make you follow a false deity. This was tried by Muhammad.  Roll Eyes

Allah = false god
Muhammad = false prophet
Qur'an = false scripture
Allah=the God.

Btw, what about worshiping the father of Baal?

I'm going to regret this, aren't I?  laugh

They're not in anyone but Theophilos' mind. I remember a while back I had a conversation with a Coptic friend who was railing against Arabic, and how much he hated it and he hated his forefathers for giving up and learning it, so that he now has to speak it as a native language. I pointed to the Agpeya/Horologion on his desk, which was in Arabic, and he said he prayed from it every day. Then I asked him if he read the Bible in Arabic, and he said of course. Then I asked him how he could hate Arabic when it was through Arabic that he prayed to God, and that he studied and embraced and loved God's word? He thought about it for a second and apologized for not thinking it through before becoming upset.

Other than giving appropriate responses during the liturgy, I do not pray in Arabic despite attending an Arabic speaking church (which does ~75 to 80% of its liturgy in English...), but it would be ludicrous for me or anyone to cast aspersions upon the Christianity of those who do. That kind of bigoted, xenophobic, borderline racist nonsense has nothing in common with the true Orthodox faith of God, in which there is neither Jew nor Greek (and, I would say, neither Arab nor Ajam).

Btw, the Coptic is exactly like the Arabic on this:Ph'noudi "the God."  Banoudi "my God."

Theophilus, let me ask this: When we speak of God, we speak of the Holy Trinity. When Jews speak of God, they speak of the same God, but without full understanding that the Messiah came and the existence of the Trinity. So when muslims speak of God, who do they speak of? (in reality, not who they think it is) Is it the Devil, or is it nothing or is it God(The true God: the Trinity), but just with a way off, wrong theology.

Deities (gods) don't exist though. In my understanding, there is Worship of God(Trinity), devil worship(directly and indirectly through material things, concept of mammon, and fake gods that are the devil), and then there's being outright wrong. So then I believe either Muslims worship our God, the True God incorrectly, or they were tricked completely and worship the devil. Whats your take if we eliminate "deities".

(in reality, not who they think it is) Is it the Devil, or is it nothing or is it God(The true God: the Trinity), but just with a way off, wrong theology.

I think Muslims worship a false deity.

I used to think the same but I looked into Islam and since I 'know' their side, i must reserve Judgment incase i'm wrong. The more you know, the more responsibility you have. I cant bash them anymore. All I can say is they are extremely prone to Islamic political cults and they certainly have their share of diversity. Many.. Or most Muslims are fairly 'recent' converts in history from Idoltarers. This could have been Gods hand at work to keep The nords from accupying the middle east and ensure a seperation of peoples. Look at it that way.

I will say they are EXTREMELY monotheist and consider Chritians lost from truth and polytheism. At age 15 or something like that the teens go to circumsized to ensure that they want to be Muslim. I can attest that not all Muslims seem to follow this. They've also relaxed a lot of rules. The Quran is taken out of context just like we do. A lot of it documents war and battles. Its a much different book that aims on social reform.

They heavily, heavily stress monotheism. The Jews and Muslims both agree on this since like 600 AD the Rabbis acknowledged them as monotheistic.

They both dont see Christians this way which is our own fault and the views of very early schollars and possibly Jewish sages very, very early on trying to justify who Jesus was because of the after effects from his resorection.

Sothern Greeks and Jews have many, many similarities between them and this was recognized early on. The schollary, higher society Jews and Greeks really enjoyed one another from what I understand. And back then Kabbalah was very big. Same with concept of different dieties and parts of a single God... JUST SAYING... Smiley

Trolls are fun. Finnish mythology is filled with all kinds of elves, trolls, gods and other such furry cutes.

Finntroll is the #1 band addressing troll issues today.
