Russian Bibles

Hi,

I run my church's book program.  Among other things, we always keep a few Russian Bibles on hand, as there are some people in our congregation who read and write Russian more comfortably than Armenian.  I just ran out of our last bunch of Russian Bibles and I need to order more.  The Bibles that we just ran out of were from the American Bible Society.  However, someone told me that these Bibles had the Protestant canon, not the Orthodox one.

I want to order Russian Bibles that have the Orthodox canon.  Does anyone know where I can easily get these?  Is there an online Russian Orthodox bookstore that has them?

Although it looks like you may have found your source for Russian Bibles, I would think Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY could definitely help you with this.

This may be your best resource for Russian Bibles since Jordanville is notoriously bad at getting orders filled if you order by email, phone or fax. In person they are pretty good at letting you buy things though!

You have to watch out: these are the synodal translation, but mutilated (the books not accepted by the Protestants are left out).

We carry Russian Bibles and Prayer books in our Church bookstore.  If some are needed right away, I could send them.

Are the first two items Russian Bibles, Old and New Testaments?  Is the difference between them the size, with the second one being larger?  ("bolshogo" means large, right?)

The last item is the New Testament and Psalms, right?   

What is the third item?  Is it a Gospel book?

That would be my guess.  However, I always call the bookstore and tell them exactly what I want and they have been very good at answering questions and getting me what I am after.

Btw, is the Armenian Canon the same as the Russian Canon?

The Armenian canon is either identical or very similar to the EO canon.  We have the Septuagint.

I called the monastery in Jordanville and they have several of both the large and small Russian Bibles in stock, as well as the New Testament and Psalms.  They are out of the Slavonic Gospels, which I think was the third item that was on the link.  This is great, as every other place I have contacted is completely out of Russian Bibles.

Does anyone know about this one?  It seems great, in that it has the Deuterocanonicals.  I think the ones I got from the monastery had the Protestant canon.

In the Old Testament in square brackets the words vzyatyi authors Synodal translation of the Septuagint (the Greek and the Bible).

The text of the New Testament in square brackets words, taken from the Slavonic translation or later Greek manuscripts.

It would seem to be what you're looking for, were I to guess.
