Man, you're really invested in making the Greeks out to be lazy bums...

Nah. It's just that my job is to be part of data collections like that and I've seen too many all kinds misinterpretations when people don't understand the purpose and definitions of this or that data collection.
I just need to find out how to say it in Slavonic!

Arabic is category V <3
(I suppose for Slavic native speakers too)

Edit: I'm surprised that Romanian and French are in the same category as Spanish, as it goes for romance languages. I mean, I suppose Romanian and French are harder, at least I can say it for Romanian in comparison with Spanish from my experience.

Although I take the fact French and Romanian are harder than Spanish beyond doubt, the latter has some particularly difficult aspects, such as the verb system and the diversity of registers. Also, as hard as Uralic languages are, I didn't think they could surpass Arabic. I'm curious on which category would Basque fall.

French felt easier to learn, as a Spanish speaker.  It helped me understand Spanish grammar better (something I never learned growing up).

For you, being a Spanish speaker, for sure. But I suppose that for non-romance native speakers situation differs a lot.

Lights during Ramadan vs. the rest of the year...

NOAA/NASA Satellite Sees Holiday Lights Brighten Cities

...When the team investigated the satellite record, they found that the large increase in light output in Egypt's capital corresponded with the holy month of Ramadan. During Ramadan, Muslims fast during the day, pushing meals and many social gatherings, markets, commerce and more to nighttime hours.

To confirm that the nighttime signal was not merely an instrument artifact, they examined three consecutive years worth of data from 2012 through the fall of 2014. They found that the peaks in light use closely tracked the Islamic calendar, as Ramadan shifted earlier in the summer.

But not all Middle Eastern cities responded the same as Cairo. Light use in Saudi Arabian cities, such as Riyadh and Jeddah, increased by about 60 to 100 percent through the month of Ramadan. Light use in Turkish cities, however, increased far less. Some regions in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon did not have an increase in light output, or even demonstrated a moderate decrease, possibly due to unstable electrical grids or conflict in the region.

"Even within majority Muslim populations, there are a lot of variations," Stokes said. "What we've seen is that these lighting patterns track cultural variation within the Middle East."...

My googling turned these up:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmas_Indicopleustes

According to Wikipedia, this is the oldest surviving map of Constantinople:

It's interesting that such a mixed country as Portugal is developed what I like to call the "miscegenate-and-conquer" colonisation method.   At the same time, it's funny that it's definitely among the most culturally homogeneous countries in Europe, with recognisable music, religion and cuisine all along the country and only one historical linguistic minority (some villages in the border speak a mix between Portuguese and Leonese recently codified as Mirandese). Both facts are probably associated with a strong tradition of assimilation.

The Genetic Map of Europe

Interesting that Saxons are a mix of R1b and l2b. I always thought they were more Germanic than Celtic. I guess this is also the final nail in the coffin for "Aryan=Nordic", as if we really needed another one.

Just don't tell the Greeks, Turks, and Arabs that they share so much DNA with the Jews. It might start another war lol!

Also, lol that the Hungarians are almost completely non-Hunnic.

Also, lol that the Hungarians are almost completely non-Hunnic.
This was just another case of a weird imposition of language that didn't correspond to proportional imposition upon culture, genetics, etc. Pretty much what happened in Malta, which was colonised by Sicilians who were Catholic in faith and Arabic in language. Maybe something similar could be said of part of the US, I'm aware Anglo-Saxon genes and British-derived churches aren't such a thing in some states, but the US is such a cultural mess that it's hard to compare it to more homogeneous and historical countries like Hungary or Malta.

On a side note, linguistic + cultural imposition not corresponding to genetics is obviously normal in Europe as we see on the map, but it's harder to visualise since everyone's white and anywhere in Europe has both blonds and brunets, both tall and short, but there are some cultures around the world in which the genetical disparity aside cultural assimilation is more obvious, such as some Subsaharan African regions with strong European and/or Islamic penetration, most dominantly non-white parts of Latin America, and the Philippines.

I'm not shocked about which languages are categorized as being more difficult, especially the more heavily inflected languages like Icelandic and Finnish.
