Yes it is. One can find these in Greek Churches occasionally.

They're very common in Cyprus. I've not seen them in churches anywhere else though, Greek or otherwise.

I have seen a couple of sets like this. One in particular is a large set that the standard aers are not big enough to cover either the chalice or diskos, and they do have the metal covers for them. They work just like the clothe ones.

Is it what I think it is?

The metal covers look like a bishop's mitre.
The memory of God should be treasured in our hearts like the precious pearl mentioned in the Holy Gospel. Our life's goal should be to nurture and contemplate God always within, and never let it depart, for this steadfastness will drive demons away from us. - Paraphrased from St. Philotheus of Sinai
Writings from the Philokalia: On Prayer of the Heart,
Translated from the Russian by E. Kadloubovksy and G.E.H. Palmer, Faber and Faber, London, Boston, 1992 printing.

Why?
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

I like how they look like then. It also seems to be kinda more "traditional".

Please forgive me, but when I see the word 'phelonion', I can't help but think of 'felony' and 'onions.'

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. ;)
