Send your regrets.
I'm 34 and I'm right there with you.  I want to just spend the rest of my life tending to my vegetable gardens and sitting on a rocking chair on the back porch.  Maybe with a pipe. And a glass of scotch. And a couple of rocks to throw at kids who cut through my yard.

*sigh*

that would be the life.  Tongue

I wish I could get spousal unit to retire, so he can get the joys of househusbandry and I can go out and do things.

The novelty soon wears off. Retirement is okay if you have hobbies, such as DIY, gardening, writing or studying. Sitting round on your backside is simply the way to make those piles grow and grow, ouch!  Kiss

On a more serious note, I would really just like to be in a position where I could just quit my job and go do something more fulfilling in life.  There are a ton of volunteer activities that I would like to be involved in, but work gets in the way of that.  Sad

I know how you feel, Achronos. I want to retire as well to a small but comfortable home somewhere on an otherwise uninhabited island and take lots of books with me.

Since I am much closer to retirement than any of you young whippersnappers, I feel uniquely qualified to give my opinion.
When I see ads for an "active senior lifestyle," I am repulsed. I envision a "sitting-on-the-porch-reading" senior lifestyle. Though the way things are going it's more likely to be "sitting-on-the-porch-starving" lifestyle.

Sounds more like you're ready for death than retirement.  Poor baby  Roll Eyes.  "Even" retired people can do things in this life.

I drive by an "active senior" community.  They have nice houses and great amenities.  My wife and I are trying to convince her parents to buy a house and just let us live there.  Imagine all those nice old ladies wanting to bake you stuff all the time, because their grandkids are too busy to visit.  I would be fat in a month.

Maybe you should think about monasticism or joining the clergy. Definitely a lot more fulfilling and intense than retirement. And if you are 25, you are old enough to be ordained a deacon, provided you can fulfill the other requirements.

I might slit my wrists if I ever retire.
I would have already done that if I knew I had to work for the rest of my life.

There won't be much of "rest of your life" if you do it right.

Nonsense. They'll all be too busy playing tennis to bake anything at all.  Grin And btw, none of my mother's friends bakes or even cooks at all.

Either one might be appropriate, in his case. Grin

That's actually quite depressing.
