Paint It Red

« on: September 25, 2013, 01:45:32 AM »

Really nothing new here, I mean the anonymity of the internet is such a potent platform to spew the nastiest disparaging comments.

I read that stupid CNN article today about how Twitter users are supposedly the angriest on the internet. And then I saw that Colin Kaepernick of the 49ers (who has had the worst two games thus far in his career) favorited all the comments from his haters, much of the stuff isn't some passive "You suck!" but a lot more insulting.

I know there's always going to be haters that's just the way it is, but I read so much of the garbage that people put up online and I'm sure they truly believe what they say, more than just trying to hurt someone. But you don't see this type of behavior actually in person with each other. I don't think the internet connects us at all.

I feel it's only going to get worse.

That's probably the best solution for anyone's health, but Achronos (who I always assume is a male) could just stay away from Facebook, Twitter, and the like. There are even scripts you can install that remove the comments section from YouTube. Very helpful for one's sanity. Wink

Instead of airing your dirty laundry on fb or twitter, just keeping doing it here. That's what OC.nyet is for.

Afraid I'm one of those who find Facebook, etc., evil, judging by their nasty fruits. But my avoidance is of them is probably made easier by my age.

The only websites I frequent in terms of 'chat rooms', or whatever we call them, are Orthodox ones. Even there the rough and tumble is sometimes such I wonder the horses are not frightened.

Certainly I keep my business and my adventures, like exciting trips to the post office, to myself. See little point in telling burglars I'm out!  Shocked

I have been on facebook before it was popular and still muddle in that cesspit.  I just keep the majority of my friends list people that I have met in real life.  No twit-er, no instagram, not gonna do it.  I use an old flip phone.  No smartphones.  I think all this social technology and phones and crap make people less interesting.  The flip side to the internet is, it is a great source for research.  Honestly, I spend most my time reading blogs, news, and looking up info. I rarely look at FB if I have anything better to do.

I know little to nothing about "Twitter", but from what I've gleaned about it from what others have said, it reminds of this.  Totally yawn-worthy.

I mostly agree with you, but I singled this out because what annoys me to no end is how journalists and television/radio reporters now report not only what's happening in the world, but (almost more importantly) what people are tweeting about it, who liked what about it on Facebook, and how they made a video about their opinion on the matter and posted it on Youtube.  When did "the News" become a bunch of annoying, gossipy high school girls?

I kind of like it now that the NBC morning news program with Matt Lauer and more importantly Al Rocker, has gotten Carson Daly to do the social networking segment.  I know that when he comes on I need to turn the TV off and head out to work.

This is basically me as well.  I don't need or want a smart phone.  I'm still not sure what Twitter is.  I have a Facebook account mainly to keep up with kin all over Dixie.  BUT, I do love the internets!  Just yesterday I watched a Youtube documentary on Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.  Very interesting places.  Then I watched some how-tos on pruning my grape vines.
