Uh-oh.  I've had enough internet for the day.

But to answer your question, yes.

EDIT: I'm not sure how true this is but I have heard that the Church usually tends to go easy on the kids in their preteens (11-13ish).  Also, there are exceptions for pretty much anything, if you have a prostate issue or need to test your fertility, for example, than you should be asking your priest.

Essentially you aren't to lust or use sexuality in ways it was not intended for. We're just supposed to do our best to follow those guidelines.  If we fail in that then we should repent, confess, and move on intending to do better. If fear is a healthy motivator, that's all well and good; but if not, there's no reason to go the route of asking about hell IMO.

As far as I have heard, the sins for which we can go to Hell are the sins for which we don't repent.

But, the Church allows us to take Confession, which is a means of repentance. So don't despair.

When I was reading about penitential literature, this was the only sin about which I can remember them saying that it was a common and difficult-to-avoid problem, and so confessors should be understanding of those confessing. Even people who were so strict they gave penances for playing footsy or kissing at inappropriate times were somewhat understanding about the difficult nature of breaking away from this habit/problem.

Do people go to Hell for that? ...

Sure,

Jesus said "If your right eye causes you to sin.... Pluck it out... better to lose an eye than your entire body thrown into hell".

There are many EO church writings warning against lust and how it leads to destruction and possibly hell.

My fear is this is a radically growing problem with so much pornography in privacy all at the touch of a few computer keys.

My opinion is its the single largest outlet for sinful exercise.  There are few people I know who are not tempted by it outside those without Internet.

We have the body so we can potentially choose not to sin. The Orthodox Church (as far as I know) teaches that the ideal place for sexual activity is in a marriage.

To make use of it in within a good context - i.e marriage.

We have the body so we can potentially choose not to sin. The Orthodox Church (as far as I know) teaches that the ideal only place for sexual activity is in a marriage.

Fixed that for you.

I don't know if you want to consider the tongue a sex organ (personally, Myle Cyrus' recent use of it has grossed me for that), but it can do all sorts of things that do not involve sex that cause you to go to hell.

Btw, note that the Lord mentions plucking eyes out, not castration.

Not quite.

It will be hell on your soul but not be thrown in a literal hell after this life.

Sinning places us in the hell of God's love for us because we have turned against it.

According to forum rules, there is a recommendation, if you will, to try to your best into making meaningful longer posts.  Low content posts, are against the rules to a certain degree.  They can be judicially used in some cases based on the judgment of each moderator in this forum.  Your repeated posts one after another, unless some form of a glitch, runs into the risk of actually breaking the rule of defiantly posting low-content posts.  Perhaps you may have not known the rules of this forum, and I invite you to click on the hyperlink provided above in "forum rules".  So this is just a friendly reminder.

God bless you.

They did plenty.  There has always been sexual sin.   But not everybody had access to such a vast quantity of perversion all in private.... Within 2 seconds one can see whatever and just about whoever they want and lust for it...    They can look up whatever perversion they have in the privacy of their home.  We have to know as Christians this is wrong, and can fuel sin.

Best way to overcome (no double entendre intended) sexual sins like masturbation is to adorn all of your walls with Icons so that no matter what direction you face, there will always be an Icon looking into your eyes, making it too awkward to masturbate.

Just a caution that forum rules don't permit the posting of such a succession of low content posts as this.

Hello sorry, as written in the very first post I posted edited "just go here, i gave up trying to paste it all"

I was going to try to post the entire commentary of Saint Nikodemos but I gave up since I couldn't get it to flow in order and it would take too many posts so I thought it would get spammy anyway, but I was no longer allowed to delete the posts so I only was able to edit them so I put a number instead so it was not a block of text which was not in order, and even now I am not allowed to edit them anymore

this is what i was trying to put here, http://tokandylaki.blogspot.ca/2013/08/saint-nikodemos-hagiorite-concerning.html but I thought imediatlly after that just linking it would make more sense

I have not looked at this thread till now, since I felt I should not look at a thread about masturbation and sexual sins too often

Best way to overcome (no double entendre intended) sexual sins like masturbation is to adorn all of your walls with Icons so that no matter what direction you face, there will always be an Icon looking into your eyes, making it too awkward to masturbate.

I agree, someone said they kept masturbating at the computer and I recommended, why not put an icon at the computer? Would you look at bad sights then? Would you have the gall to move the icon, make it face away? Sometimes I think it is good for priests to also wear a cossock at all times, so they never forget they are not an ordinary person. I am sure most priests know who they are, but I imagine that wearing a cossock would keep you reminded not to think of some things, or to act in a different and more "holy" manner for lack of a better word. but my opinion on that does not matter, it is just dumb thoughts in my head late at night

Best way to overcome (no double entendre intended) sexual sins like masturbation is to adorn all of your walls with Icons so that no matter what direction you face, there will always be an Icon looking into your eyes, making it too awkward to masturbate.

I was told by my priest not to put icons in the bathroom.

I think that makes sense, since well...

hmm, maybe a work around is to put up a piece of paper with some words...
