Secondary Literature on C.S. Lewis
« on: August 15, 2013, 01:02:10 AM »
The number of books about C.S. Lewis, and in particular his religious writings/beliefs, seems vast. There's got to be a hundred books mentioned just on his wiki page. Can anyone point to a few texts that are considered the best? Or at least, can someone point to the best texts to start with for someone who is familiar with Lewis himself but not familiar with the commentary on him by others?

I'm going to use my single bump-token at this point, in the hopes that someone has some thoughts :)

Back in the early 90s, when I was still a fan of Peter Kreeft, I remember liking his "C.S. Lewis for the Third Millennium". Can't say what I would think of it today.

I guess my best recommendation would be Thomas Howard's "C.S. Lewis: Man of Letters".

You know...we're apparently approaching his 50th anniversary of his departure

If the faith is unchanged and rock solid, then the gates of Hades never prevailed in the end.

Kreeft is a hack

I suppose "hacks" are one of your areas of expertise, so why not?
I'm making a firm decision to stay with the Orthodox Church.

My point is you should try to fixate on something else. I suggest Christ.

"Hack" = any writer who's written and published more than one bestselling book.  ::)

Well, he's still alive (as far as I know). I just say that I was (past tense) a fan of his because it's the truth.

I've purchased a few of his books, read his entire website and have listened to more than a dozen of audio podcasts throughout the years.

He cannot give you any real thought outside of parroting CS Lewis about a hundred times.

If you pay me, I will write more in detail.

If you pay me, I'll read every word of what you write, in detail. But it better be a lot.  :police:
