Today's Edinburgh Evening News reports that some one hundred people marched to celebrate Ginger Pride and against 'gingerism'.

 ;)

They do get mocked relentlessly in the UK including -violence-...and like with other things like skin color, etc. it's pretty horrible that people treat others badly for something they cannot change.

Whether or not a parade helps, awareness does, and i am sure that's why they started it.

It reminds me a bit of the 'subhuman Celts' image Imperial Brits portrayed.

Maybe it's the undirect modern descendant.

According to some geneticists, as reported by National Geographic, gingers may be extinct in a century.  Let them show their pride before evolution has its way with them.

It is supposedly the colouring of the oldest known inhabitants here I'm told. Not sure who Imperial Brits were though. Anglo-Irish ascendancy with a notion of superiority, yes. Lowland Scots with a look down their nose at Highlanders and Islanders, yes. Englishman/women with notions foreigners began at Calais, and that anyone not English was less fortunate than themselves, yes. Imperial Brits, no, that must have passed me by.

I whole-heartedly support such marches! I want one to happen here where I live. I'll even help promote and organize it! :)

I think the reason gingers get picked on is because of the notion that "they have no souls."  This is true.  However, while male gingers have no souls because they are demons, female gingers on the other hand have no souls because they are blessed heavenly angelic creatures far superior to humans. The males deserve our sympathy, the females our adoration.

Also, thankfully the news reports about them going extinct are not legit. One can find similar reports about blonds and brunettes as well.

Me too, almost...

There should be a pride march for Left-handedness.  You know, to show the pride of Left-handed people in the face of Left-handedphobiaism.  It’s not a real word, but the prejudice does exist.  I am surprised no one thought of this before.

Sadly prejudice does exist at many levels, against individuals who are perceived as different, against communities and nationalities, to say nought of that age old battle between male and female.

However the notion of an ever increasing raft of 'Pride' marches leaves me cold. Struggling to 'love my neighbour' as myself appears a spiritually more profitable activity, especially as it is all inclusive rather than selective. Indeed my instinct is that may be part of the challenge, we are selective in who we are attracted to and who we are not. The parable of the Good Samaritan illustrates how this love for our neighbour may overcome even the deepest disdain for some about us in a way no number of Pride marches will. Indeed marches can and do divide, as has been seen on OC.net and more dramatically in Belfast over the past days.

Yes, of course they leave you cold. I agree. Because they're not the real thing. Our Sunday of Orthodoxy processions are the original pride march  :D!
