Pray for me, a sinner.

Greetings, I'm a new member here, but had been lurking for several months enjoying the many interesting topics on here.  I am a catechumen in the OCA and it took, oh, about six years to get to that point.  Coming from a Pentecostal upbringing (Church of God [Cleveland TN] and Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal M.I.) to Southern Baptist (the wife, you see) to nondenominational (after several churches, I figured each one was its own denomination), I eventually became an agnostic.  The only thing that reminded me of the Lord was an icon of St. George that I received when I was in university and a small blurb on Eastern Orthodoxy in an Art History class.  After I graduated, I moved out of state and went to my first Divine Liturgy (why not earlier?  Not sure.).  A nice baba hooked onto my arm and let me know what was going on.  I was in love (with the Church, not baba).  I met the priest that day and he gave me The Orthodox Way by Metropolitan Kallistos (then Timothy Ware) and the search was on.  I'm currently in a very nice parish with loving people and good priests and I'm learning more and more every day.  Please pray for me, a sinner, as I get closer to the baptismal font.

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad your lurking for several months didn't scare you away! I supposed you've noticed that you'll find some of the best and some of the worst examples of Orthodoxy here - and plenty of disagreement as to which is which  Wink Cheesy. Is your wife making this journey with you?

Thank you for the kind welcome!  Asteriktos, I almost spit my water (ooooh, health guru Roll Eyes) on my computer with that meme.  Genesisone, yes, I agree with you on forums having the best and worst examples of anything; but when the resources are good, they are good!  My wife is not making the journey to the Church with me, but I pray for that day when she will come and see what I have seen.

On a dark desert byteway, cool threads with flair
Warm smell of incense, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My doubts grew heavy and my faith grew dim
I had to stop for the night
The cross stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then I lit up a candle and yaya showed me the way
There were voices singing a troparion,
I thought I heard them say...

Her mind is theological, no heresy here of any blends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys she calls friends
How they dance in their bedrooms, just with a TV set.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the Father,
"Please bring me my wine"
He said, "Is outrage what you say, it's sacred, go commune, you must get in line"
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis

Domes over the ceiling,
Arguing theology is so nice
And she said "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
And in the moderators' chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They judge us with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
deleting my profile and more
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax, " said the moderator,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can logout any time you like,
But you can never leave! "
