The forum clock has consistently been showing the wrong time for as long as I have been around. It is about twelve minutes behind. This is a bit annoying when I am trying to figure out which posts I have read and not.

I brought this concern up in a past thread.  Basically, one has to accept that Board time is 12 minutes behind, like the Julian Calendar is 13 days behind.   Undecided

No.  World time is 12 minutes fast, just like the Julian Calendar is 13 days ahead.

How many countless generations of regular users have used this time thing consistently, baptizing and sanctifying it? How can you call it a mistake if our Fathers in the faith used it? Are icons merely wood and paint, or do they become something more? We must learn not to be so enslaved to "the world" that we want to imitate them in everything.  Cool

Jord is talking about how it's 7:09pm (for example) and the forum clock will show a time quite different.

In this pic, which I took seconds after my last post, notice the difference between the time shown for my post and the time on the clock on my computer:

(6:57pm vs. 7:10pm)

Yes, I know.

However, his major issue with the time lapse is that he can't figure out what he's read or not.

You folks ought to realize the significance of the not 11, not 13, but, 12 seconds!

12 tribes of Israel, 12 Apostles,...

I seem to have misunderstood him then, as I thought the problem was not in finding threads that had new posts, but rather in figuring out which posts were new once he got to the thread.

There are time stamps all over the forum and this is basically a good thing, but it does not help much when the time is wrong and I am browsing and trying to assert (quickly) if someone posted in the thread or not since I last read it, for example when I see it listed in the forum, and so on. I refuse to see this as a good thing and I hope you calendar zealots are joking, but alright I guess it is hard to fix it then. A small issue but itty bitty disturbing.

Calendar jokes like that are not funny, and I think that those who make such jokes are afraid to say what they think. It is easier then to say it in the form of a joke. If you are criticised, you can always say that you were not serious.

What I meant when I said I hope you are joking was this: I hope you did not set the forum clock like that on purpose.

Perhaps spending some months & hopefully years on the forum will help you understand that we treat this forum like the community that it is.  Everyone & their mother (I mean that in the expressional way, not literally) has already posted what they REALLY think about the calendar issues.  That's why there is an OC vs NC STICKY on the forum:  http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php/topic,2233.0.html

So after beating it to death, now we just joke about it. And when we have something further to say, we bring it to the area that it belongs in (the thread I linked to)

Now to the topic at hand.  There is no way that we are ignoramus enough to set the clock back by 12 seconds.  It was a mistake that was made the last time we did an update to the system and would take the kind of man-hours that no one has time to put into something so miniscule & not all that important.  If a 12 second delay on the time stamp somehow doesn't make sense to you & really bothers you, i truly am sorry.  But until we get around to fixing it...you'll just have to deal with it.

What serb1389 meant to say is:

We all know that (fill in the blank based on your preference) calendarists are evil schismatics deserving only of the fiery torments of hell, but we tolerate them because Christ Himself acknowledged that there would be chaff in with the wheat, so we just secretly rub our hands in glee until they get their comeuppance.

It's a 12 minute difference--not 12 seconds. And 12 is the number of bakers, who obviously prize the sin of gluttony, which is obviously a favored sin of Americans, which obviously shows the western bias for gluttonous sin being promoted by the subtle but ever-pervasive time discrepancy. We see through you, oc.net powers that be!

It is okay of course, I just wanted to find out.

As for taking the calendar issue where it belongs: Please do. Nothing could be more boring.

My computer shows 2:14 PM PST

Yet the board shows: 1:56 PM Alaska Standard Time

Hey, I was wondering:

Is the board 18 minutes slow or is it 42 minutes fast?

If I put the board at Pacific Standard Time then it shows
10:16:48 PM PM PST

But my computer shows:
09:34 PM PST

That disparity of 42 minutes confuses me, so I think that it is later than it is.

I look at my posts and think: Back to the Future. How can I post in the future?
So, I keep OC.net on Alaska time so that it reads only 18 minutes slow.

In your proper timezone, under look and layout Preferences, put -0.7 as the offset, and it will get you within seconds.

An update, because of something that I have no clue on, the decimal has shifted from .7 to .66, and those of us in Eastern Standard Time should use -.66 to correct the time now.

EDIT: .66 is the proper one, and .67 is not bad off, but .66 is closer.

How were you able to insert 0.445? I could only insert two and seven tenth (2.7), two and six tenths (2.6), or two and five tenths (2.5). I tried to refine the offset, but I could not go lower than a tenth.
