If he's a double agent for the KGB, yes, yes he is.  Tongue

Seriously, what are you talking about?  A house blessing?  A regular visit?

Now define "check everything out".  Usually they bless every room in the house, so they would see everything.  Is he going through your desk and reading your bank statements or something?

Checking everything out I guess would mean "clearing the house" to make sure everything is ok

Is he a city building inspector or something?  I don't understand what you mean.  What exactly is he doing?

I believe that he is trying to suggest that the priest comes and ensures that their is no "evil" lurking around in the house.

Never in a million years would I have gotten that out of such vague descriptions.  There are priests who do such things?  Like Ghostbusters, Orthodox Edition?

Is he going to go through your video and audio collections and remove what he considers "un-orthodox?"  If you have firearms, is he going to test whether they're locked up in a cabinet?  Is he going to go through your on-demand history?  Is he going to make sure that every room has an icon corner?

I could go on and on.  I've never heard of a priest being so invasive (unless he worked for the KGB or CIA).

Wait.  He actually did this?!?!

Did you say' stop by when you are I the neighborhood, Father'??

Otherwise that's just a bit creepy.

I mean Orthodoxy was stalking me this year(almost everywhere I went there was a random Priest there too!), but it didn't follow me home!

In India, it's fairly common for people you know, including priests, to just stop by to have a chat in your parlor. I've never heard of it being done in America though. Priests usually also say a quick prayer before they leave but that's about it, they don't do a surprise house inspection or anything of the sort.

I think its called "rummaging"  ... For example, Rummaging through my desk to find a piece of paper.

WPM, are you saying a priest actually came to your home and rummaged?....and you are asking if that is normal and okay?

OR are you asking if you ought to invite him to come over and do some inspecting?

That's when you say "what the heck are you doing?"

Then yes, the priest is supposed to come to your house, walking through each room, praying, sprinkling holy water, etc.

However, NOT rummaging through your desk.

I think the answer is "Yes, with permission, a priest is supposed to come and bless your house. No, he isn't supposed to rummage through your desk drawers or turn on your computer and check your recycle bin/Internet history."

Assuming I'm understanding the question right. Which I may not be.

When my mom started attending an Assembly of God church (mainly because the pastor spoke Chinese)  the pastor came over to our house and starting pointing out things that he considered idolatrous, including one of those wrought-iron stork and tortoise candle holders (an innocuous Chinese decoration, but he made us get rid of it). Fortunately some of my favorite paintings that would probably have given him a heart attack were conveniently in storage. Puritanism is gross.
