Supplicatory Canons
« on: July 23, 2013, 05:14:38 PM »
Is there a difference between a canon to a saint at matins and a supplicatory canon to the same saint that one would do at a separate paraklesis service?

If you spend long enough on this forum, you'll come away with all sorts of weird, untrue ideas of Orthodox Christianity.

I would suggest most persons in general avoid any question beginning with why.

In my Serbian prayerbook (cointaning only some canons and akathists) all the supplicatory canons (e.g to st. Nicholas, to the Holy Cross, to all saints etc.) are differenat than those chanted at Matins. I suppose it's the same case with Greeks and generally byzantin-southren Orthodox . No idea for Eastern Slavs, as the service of paraklesis is done very rarely here.

BTW, I wonder, who has composed these ones in my prayerbook
Pray for persecuted Christians, especially in Serbian Kosovo and Raška, Egypt and Syria
