Quote
MOSCOW, July 21 (RIA Novosti) – Head of the Russian Orthodox Church warned Western governments on Sunday against legalization of same-sex marriages what he called a sign of approaching end of the world.
Patriarch Kirill said during a service at Moscow’s major cathedral that the recent initiatives in a range of countries to legalize same-sex marriages “is a dangerous and apocalyptic symptom” that should not spread over to Russia, according to Russian media reports.

They quoted him as saying "dangerous and apocalyptic symptom," but previously accredit him as saying it's a sign of the approaching end. Unless he said something more they're not quoting for whatever reason, the article seems to be sensationalizing a vague statement.

Went to my RT app this morning and came across this. Of course I love how other country's, like the US in particular, but also sundry European countries love telling Russia what they should do, or pretty much anyone for that matter. Russia is a secular country but at least they have some degree of law against homosexual propaganda and over 50% of Russians want to see homosexuality banned completely. The United States, always going on about the importance of democracy, hypocriticly as Putin once pointed out, cannot accept the fact that the democratic opinion of Russians is that homosexuality should be outlawed even. Of course I am not the biggest fan of democracy because what happens when the majority want an injustice? Nevertheless, it is nice to see something like this, even if it is far from putting down the sodomite agenda. And of course the left hates this sort of thing.

I am of the opinion that Russia should make laws against homosexual agenda and so forth, but out of necessity tolerate homosexual acts as long as they do not directly offend the body politic. At least for the present. Of course as the Patriarch points out that is the problem with sodomy--it corrupts the state. It is what happened to Sodom after all. But I think outlawing it completely would have to be done carefully to avoid agressive action from the West or riots. Of course since I am not a fan of democracy and the false idea of liberty, though I believe in true liberty, I would not be against the state using force, even violence, on homosexual protesters. But of course we know the United States and Co. tendency to cause wars and go to war in places that do not follow their agenda. Don't get me wrong I love my country and think the problem with modern Russia, Putin included, is that it is a secular state. I want to see a truly Christian state in Mother Russia again, not a somewhat decent secular state.

I am happy he did this. We are having similar problems in Romania, but worse because we are part of the EU and partners with America (not against these at all, just certain parts), but most of all because our politicians are (well, I am not going to use the word) doing whatever they are told just to get the financial benefits and stuff like that. Yet, we are an Orthodox nation and things like gay marriage and separation between Church and state doesn't really reflect us because The Church has an existential role in our country.

The way I use the word it means this: we have been Orthodox for 2000 years basically and The Church has been playing a decisive and glorious role in our history and culture to the point where to be Romanian is synonymous with being Orthodox. Those who try to impose other ways of life from without and even the few (but vociferous) who do it from within are honestly and tragically absolutely off.

There are many Romanian Orthodox churches near me.

I was excited when I saw there was another Romanian church being built down the road.

It turned out to be Romanian Baptist.

Sad

And quoted the Patriarch as saying:

Quote
"This is a very dangerous apocalyptic symptom, and we must do everything in our powers to ensure that sin is never sanctioned in Russia by state law, because that would mean that the nation has embarked on a path of self-destruction."

So even if one disagrees with him, he's not foretelling the end times. More sensationalism.

First of all, Adam & Eve probably didn't exist as literal people, second of all, God didn't "reveal himself" to us after the fall until Abraham.

Neither. That sort of stuff is just feeding the troll. It's not worth an argument with someone who denies the reality of Adam and Eve and things it is some fable to help us understand universals or someone who cannot see the moral and societal problems homosexuals cause. Trust me I have a friend who was a sodomite and has now given up the lifestyle, and he says it was not a happy life. It might have had pleasure, like any sin does, but he says he was never really happy. But that is for another thread.

Sodomy is not just a personal thing is what the patriarch is saying thought. It is a thing that affects a whole society. Because all sins do this more or less, but sodomy especially. Tolerating sodomites is bad enough, but the push for homosexual measure is a push to make people accept homosexuality as something normal. A friend said it well. If you want to know what a society run by homosexual is just watch "Silence of the Lambs" and imagine a society run by Buffalo Bill. "It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose!"

More sensationalism.

what does it mean for something to be an apocalyptic symptom? sure, he is not saying it is the end of the world, but he is saying that it is a sign of the end of the world is it not? or what does it mean for something to be an apocalyptic symtom?

(also, if you watch the recent meeting of Metropolitan Tikhon and Patriarch Kiril, he also talks about things that must be not be allowed or else it will cause the russian nation to be destroyed)

but anyway I do not disagree with Patriarch Kiril, even though it makes me angry that I do, because I am still angry about his watch Wink

I think you answered your own question. He seems to be saying it's a "dangerous and apocalyptic" symptom of the collapse of Russia, not the end times. Hence why he said, "because that would mean that the nation has embarked on a path of self-destruction."

see! 240 comments! Told ya!

what does it mean for something to be an apocalyptic symptom? sure, he is not saying it is the end of the world, but he is saying that it is a sign of the end of the world is it not? or what does it mean for something to be an apocalyptic symtom?

(also, if you watch the recent meeting of Metropolitan Tikhon and Patriarch Kiril, he also talks about things that must be not be allowed or else it will cause the russian nation to be destroyed)

but anyway I do not disagree with Patriarch Kiril, even though it makes me angry that I do, because I am still angry about his watch Wink

I think you answered your own question. He seems to be saying it's a "dangerous and apocalyptic" symptom of the collapse of Russia, not the end times. Hence why he said, "because that would mean that the nation has embarked on a path of self-destruction."

your right!

oh, and my favorite comment from the huffinton post article:

How come St. John didn't see this part? 'For some in Russia shall get married, and so on...'

Maybe because Russia didn't exist yet. Sigh.

Yay! Let's behead everybody! That'll show them how they all should marry the right person!

Wait, what?
