Someone told me recently that baptisms/marriages aren't allowed at all in August due to Dormition. Could someone unpackage this a bit for me? Baptisms are done during Great Lent and Nativity Lent, but not Dormition?
If you spend long enough on this forum, you'll come away with all sorts of weird, untrue ideas of Orthodox Christianity.
I would suggest most persons in general avoid any question beginning with why.

In fact, there are several people I know who were baptized during this time.
The only time when baptisms are not performed (and it is not by prohibition, but a pious custom) is the period between Christmas and Theophany.
Radiates, vegetables, monstrosities, star spawn— whatever they had been, they were men!
I could think of people themselves not having it at that time, as it dampens the celebration.
Mor Ephrem is a nice guy. Just say sorry and it will all be ok. Say I had things that were inside troubling me but I didn't know how to express appropriately. I will not behave that way again but I am seeking help.
